This IS a fantastic movie. I will try to do it justice.
First off: that one Snatcher (you know the one I mean …) was so sexy it was almost distracting. OM NOM NOM.

I'm happy/sad!

Part of me is still crying my eyes out about the Gay Bishop Man (and how I want to hook him up with my dad and what an awesome movie that would make) and part of me is giggling over Quidditch being popular in America and them trying to make it a recognized sport. In the books it never really caught on in America! Suck it, stereotypes! *dances a happy dance*
I'm so confused!
Cowboy Bebop - I finished the series two nights ago. Wow. That was ... that was pretty amazing. I've been watching it for a while now, and with each episode (particularly the ones in S2) the fact that this will probably be my favorite show EVER (tied with Firefly and Phineas and Ferb, which, if you know me, is saying something) was cemented again and again. I can literally find NO FAULTS in the WHOLE SHOW. I wouldn't change a thing, not even the ending (which made me tear up, mostly because it was so fitting and perfect and I COULD NOT FIND FAULT WITH IT, DAMMIT! *cries*) Go watch it. Seriously. If you like anime, watch it. If you don't like anime, give this show a try.
A Very Potter Musical - I watched that last night, at the bequest of my friend. And, true to her word, it was TOTALLY AWESOME! (And now I want to ship Voldemort/Quirrell, who would have thought I'd ever want to do that?!) If you haven't seen it, go watch it on youtube, it really has to be seen to be believed. Draco Malfoy was utterly fabulous! RUMBLEROAAAAAAAAAR! Lampshade hanging! *SQUEE*
Alice - I watched that today, and it was ... really good. Overall I liked it better than Tin Man. The universe, the characters, the story, all stacked up together it got a higher score from me than Tin Man did. Not to say that Tin Man wasn't awesome (it was) but some of the cliches grated and Azkadellia's blatant clevage fanservice got real old real fast.
While I feel they could have fleshed things out a bit more the potential was there and you could tell that a lot of thought and effort went into Alice. So many cool visuals! HATTER! (OMG, Hatter. He was like a really young Claude Raines with a Nice Hat, what's not to love?!)
Tim Curry's one-scene-wonder was rather frightening and I LOVED what little we saw of the Resistance.
As contrived as it was I did like that Alice was fully capable of kicking ass and saving herself.
The White Knight was PERFECT; Matt Frewer had better win something for playing that part!
Kathy Bates was cool initially but lacked the pizazz I've seen from her in the past. I can't put my finger on it, but ... something was lacking.
The costuming was FANTASTIC, most notably the diamonds in the Casino (you know the ones I mean. The fanservicey ones.)
I loved the steampunk/cyberpunk feel of the whole world, and the dichotomy between bright and colorful (the Casino and the Tea Shop) and grimy Earth Tones (pretty much everything else.)
Compared to other things it might fall a bit short, drag a little, become a tad predictable (yeah, it kinda was) but I enjoyed every minute and I reccomend it to you, my flist.
(P.S. What's up with Sci-Fi becoming Sy-Fy? I think it looks really stupid, personally, but as I don't even have cable it's not really on my radar.)

In other news, I saw HPB today in a very bad theater. (Sound quality was horrendous, the seats squeaked, and I sat all the way in the back because I came just as the previews were showing and couldn't see at all and just found the nearest empty place. Luckily I didn't sit on anybody.)
( Spoilers for the HBP movie. Don't read unless you've seen the movie already. )
P.S. The fight workshop today was a lot of fun! It was great to see the fight instructor again (he's seen Children of Earth already, lucky bastard!) and we learned rapier-style stage combat, which is different from broadsword-style stage combat, the later of which I prefer because the footwork is easier and makes more sense. Still, had a lot of fun and as we weren't using real swords, just air-swords (as a lot of the group were beginners, and real swords are expensive and a liability) I got to move around like Azula! That was cool! And I've memorized my speech! Huzzah!
Wow. A lot happened to me this year. I got officially addicted to Heroes, which led me to join IMDb.com to post in the message boards for Heroes, which led me to read a steamy slash fic between Sylar and Mohinder, which led me to join livejournal, which led me to become a slasher.
I met aimisan and became best friends with her. She also likes slash, and I converted her to Plaude and Remus/Sirius.
Speaking of Remus/Sirius, the (written) saga of Harry Potter concluded this past July. I personally believe JKR got lazy towards the end, because besides the stellar chapter about Snape's life, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows wasn't that good (to me.) Lots of people died for pointless reasons, or just DIED. Dobby, Colin Creevey, Tonks, Fred, and REMUS LUPIN: WHY, JRK, WHY?! *shed actual, physical tears* Btw, Dumbledore is gay.
I saw in passing 'Utopia' a Season 3 Doctor Who episode online. I remembered all the yammering people had been doing about how Claude was the Doctor, I started to watch BBC America. I got hooked. Then I started to watch Torchwood with my gay father. I got the 'first' DW season for X-Mas. Season 3 of DW and Season 2 of Torchwood coming to BBC America in a few weeks! *SQUEE*
I read a great many good books, and have a great many started, lying about.
I got a subscription to The New Yorker for my birthday.
I was in two plays: Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet.
After making a deal with a 'friend' who PROMISED he'd watch Heroes if I watched Lost, I proceeded to get addicted to the damn show with my relations. We are now plotting ways to rig the antenae to get the stupid show in a few weeks. THINGS MADE MORE SENSE WHEN THERE WERE POLAR BEARS RUNNING ABOUT!
I heard the Numa Numa song for the first time.
I started wearing a kimono as a robe-type-thingy.
I watched all the Seasons of Alias.
I fell in love with David Anders, Zachary Quinto, Christopher Eccleston, John Barrowman, and Josh Holloway.
I learned to make a paper crane.
I began to have actual conversations with the guy I have a major crush on (am in love with?), wore a 'sexy top' and received a WAVE from that guy!
Started wearing earrings again (cute little red skull-and-cross-bones!)
Got interested in 'popular' music because of aimisan.
Started god/Shiva/Zeus knows how many stories that I have yet to finish.
Saw quite a lot of plays and not many movies (in theaters.)
PotC ended (supposedly.)
I got hooked on the 'Twilight' books by Stephenie Meyer, began WEREWOLVES NEED HUGS (which got others to make such shirts!) and held votes as to who you'd rather be in a relationship with, werewolf or vampire.
I got addicted to manga.
I took a politics class and became insanely interested in everyone running for presidency. It's sad that a lot of my hard-won knowledge will soon become obsolete.
I know a lot of you have probably already had New Years, but here I've still got some time, so FAREWELL 2007!
WELCOME ELECTION YEAR!
My apologies, but Pottermania is upon us!
Jul. 16th, 2007 10:23 pmI’ve re-reading all the books – I possess about three copies of each, the hardcover, the paperback, and the original British version with words like ‘jumper’ and ‘colour’ in it – and underlining my favorite passages and lines (in the paperbacks, my dear readers! I don’t defile ANY literature!)
Due to this, and more rehearsals, and concerned relatives, I’m not getting much slash-time in. My Remus/Sirius stuff is blooming, but Mylar and Plaude and all my fics are mostly on hold. I’m still reading, but in concentrated periods, usually late at night (for me, for people in Japan I’m sure it’s a decent hour) and I’m really, really, REALLY sorry, but all those series I’m writing? Parts 6 and 2 and 4 and such might not come for a while. Next week, after fighting off a bout of Potter-Depression and Potter-Withdrawal, I shall turn to Heroes for consolations, but until then, more posts of mine is looking pretty unlikely.
On a side note, I’ve now seen a grand total of FOUR episodes of Doctor Who! A few things are making more and more sense, at least the episodes with CE in them …
I also figured out WHICH episodes I’ve seen! Here they are, in the order watched, and you may understand my confusion:
The Unquiet Dead
Utopia
World War Three
Dalek
‘Dalek’ was my favorite by far. (CE was so scary!) I probably would have liked ‘Utopia’ better if I wasn’t so confused about Jack and that hand in a jar and that old guy who was a Time Lord or whatever … but CE is funny in the other episodes, and he brought back memories of Claude, and … sooner or later BBC will have a marathon and I’ll figure it all out.
(Blast it! The theme song is stuck in my head! *gets Hedwig’s Theme stuck for raving Potter-fan purposes*)
