Fic: What Abigail And Ione Did That January
Feb. 27th, 2026 08:46 amI never actually posted my Yuletide fic here, and it's almost March. Way behind. But anyway, I had fun with it, so enjoy!
Title: What Abigail And Ione Did That January
Author:
beatrice_otter
Fandom: Rivers of London
Characters: Abigail Kamara/Ione Seaton, Thomas Nightingale, Peter Grant
Written For: Chrome in Yuletide 2025
Summary: Ione comes down for a visit after Christmas. But a quiet visit is not in the cards when there is a missing persons case to be solved.
I am standing in Euston Station, and it's even worse of a madhouse than I expected it to be. But I'm so excited I'm not even bothered by the crush of tourists with roller bags who seem determined to run me over as they dash to catch their trains. Ione is coming, and though we've talked on the phone almost every day, it's been months since we said goodbye in Scotland.
I want to know if she smells as good as I remember. I want to know if her skin feels as good as I remember. I'm almost afraid I've built her up, in my head, to such a peak of perfection, that I'll be disappointed to see her again and find she's just a girl.
( But if I were going to let my fear control me, I wouldn't be a wizard now. I'd never have survived the house on Hampstead Heath, or the Robinette kidnapping, or the wyvern up in Glasgow. And I'd never have gotten to kiss Ione. )

My shitty ass joints
Feb. 27th, 2026 12:03 amWelp. In for a third trigger finger surgery in late March.
I'll keep working on Sex Kitten for now, but there's going to be a break for at least a month there where I won't be able to work on art. And some time where I'll struggle with typing to work on the plot.

Gachiakuta
Feb. 26th, 2026 11:53 pmI started reading Gachiakuta.
I'm up to chapter 136 and I have some thoughts...
First, the art really is gorgeous.
The best I've ever seen? No. But incredibly high tier. Very detailed, with lovely landscapes and scene setting shots.
The theme of the story is good. And the plot is keeping me compelled to follow deeper. I'll definitely continue reading it, if my adhd doesn't win out again.
But...
The pacing is... off.
Not just the story as a whole, but individual scenes.
Things feel very stuttery and like there's missing frames.
Like we're skipping words here and there in a novel.
There's a big "My Friends Accepted Me" speech at one point without what I'd consider sufficient establishing scenes of bonding.
There's a lot of male gaze on the female characters and that could be a whole separate post on its own about my mixed feelings about that, but I don't want to write it right now.
But all that pales in comparison to what I think this series' biggest flaw is, and where it fell short of what it could be.
This manga is supposed to be about loving your things and reduce reuse recycle. About valuing our stuff.
The main character repairs damaged items as a hobby.
And yet, you know what's there's surprisingly little of?
Scenes centered on equipment maintenance.
Where's the lovingly rendered between-action scenes of oiling and polishing metal or leather?
Of sewing damage in cloth?
Of inspecting for nicks and scratches?
Of hammering out dents?
Why is there so LITTLE actual upkeep?
It's like there's this hole in the manga, gaping and obvious.
This isn't really an item treasuring manga...
It's just another cool action manga with an item-treasuring theme.

Thursday :: Fables & Fairy Tales
Feb. 26th, 2026 07:27 amHello, everyone. I’m
simplyn2deep, and I’m back to host another week!
Today’s theme is fables and fairy tales, stories most of us grew up with in one form or another, no matter where we come from. For me, many of them came through the familiar lens of Walt Disney, with their bright colors and reassuring endings. But fairy tales haven’t always been so gentle. Writers like Aesop, Oscar Wilde, and J.K. Rowling remind us that these stories often carry darker truths. Tales of Baba Yaga from Russia frightened generations of children, and even Hans Christian Andersen reportedly revised the ending of The Emperor’s New Clothes after reading it aloud to a child.
Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full name and fandom's full name for ease in adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ any, any, The Boy Who Cried Wolf
+ any, any, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves
+ any, any, The Princess and the Pea
We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2026 collection. See further notes on this new option here.
Not feeling any of today’s prompts? You can use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community. Fret not, DW members; we are working on a way to search through old entries for prompts for you! As of right now, the best way to search for a lonely prompt on DW is to search the community’s archive, which can be found [[HERE]].
While the use of LJ's advanced search and DW’s archive are options, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching in the future.
As a friendly reminder about our schedule, Lonely Prompts and sharing completed fills are encouraged on Sundays, while new themes and prompts are posted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturdays are a Free for All day. We'll share our posts on DW and LJ for everyone's convenience. Keep an eye out for notifications!
If you have a Dreamwidth account and would feel more comfortable participating there, please feel free to do so…and spread the word!

Sex Kitten progress update
Feb. 25th, 2026 09:47 amI got through Section 1 of the detailed summary: The first weekend.
I started a little bit into the next section: Return to work, so that when I have a go at it for real, I'm not just staring at a blank page.
And I'm already getting ideas for non-canon other stuff to set in this universe. Little crossover stories or spin offs I can do later, once I've got more done for SK proper, first.
I think this is going to end up being my new "feeder" fandom. So finally I have a new one other than Wynn!
...another one... that is just between me and a friend right now... so there's no wider fandom to read fic or see art from... until I make it myself and hope people make content for it... Yay! /pained grin
Anyway.
I'll keep working as much as I can.
Probably won't get more progress today, and I have an appointment tomorrow...
Well, we'll see how things go this week.

Dear High Adrenaline author
Feb. 24th, 2026 10:00 pmI use the same name everywhere so I am
beatrice_otter on AO3. Treats are awesome.
I would rather get a story you were happy with than "well, she said she liked x, so I guess I have to do x even though I don't like x and/or am not inspired that way." This letter is long with lots of suggestions and preferences if you find it helpful, but feel free to ignore it if it is not helpful. I'm fairly easy to please; I've been doing ficathons for a long time and am usually very happy with my gifts.
The most important thing for me in a fic is that the characters are well-written and recognizably themselves. Even when I don't like a character, I don't go in for character-bashing. If nothing else, if the rest of this letter is too much or my kinks don't fit yours, just concentrate on writing a story with everyone in character and good spelling and grammar and I will almost certainly love what you come up with.
I have an embarrassment squick, which makes humor kind of hit-or-miss sometimes. The kind of humor where someone does something embarrassing and the audience is laughing at them makes me uncomfortable. On the other hand, the kind of humor where the audience is laughing with the characters I really enjoy.
( General Likes and Dislikes )
( The Swan )
( Random Harvest )
( Hobson's Choice )
( Guess Who's Coming to Dinner )
( Voyager )
( Crossovers )
( DS9 )
( Star Wars OT )
( Fandom for Robots )
( Babylon 5 )

Free for All Saturday, Week 9 [DW Edition]
Feb. 28th, 2026 02:50 am↑↑↑ Available dates:
March 3 & 5
March 10 & 12
March 17 & 19
Hey, y'all, hope you're doing well. This week's Free for All is brought to you, in part, by jet lag. XD;, I shouldn't be awake, but perhaps it's a reasonable writing hour wherever you may be! There are no themes to follow for prompts or fills. If, perhaps, you missed a prompt theme that you liked, or you've had any ideas that didn't really work with Tuesday's or Thursday's posts, then today's your chance to prompt 'em. Be free, and have fun! ✎
Just a few rules:
1. No more than five prompts in a row.
2. No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
3. Use the character's full name and the fandom's full name for ease in adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
4. No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here. Unfortunately, DW doesn’t have a cut tag, so use your best judgment when it comes to spoilers.
5. If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
6. If your story has possible triggers, please warn for them in the subject line!
Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt
Are today's prompts not catching your eye? No worries, because we have plenty of older prompts that just might do the trick! You can browse through the comm's calendar archive (here on LJ or here on DW) for themed and Free For All posts, or perhaps check out Sunday posts for Lonely Prompt requests. (Or, you can be like me, and try to save interesting prompts as you see 'em... and then end up with multiple text doc files full of [themes + links + prompts] that you can easily look through and search for keywords.) Multiple fills for one prompt are welcome, by the way! Oh, and you are very likely to find some awesome fills to read as well, and wouldn't it be nice to leave a comment on those lovely little writing distractions? ~_^
We are on AO3! If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3, please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2026 collection.
If you are viewing this post on our Dreamwidth site: please know that fills posted here will not show up as comments on our LiveJournal site, but you are still more than welcome to participate. =)
If you have a Dreamwidth account and would feel more comfortable participating there, please feel free to do so… and spread the word!
A friendly reminder about our posting schedule: Themed posts for new prompts go up on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturdays are a Free for All day for new prompts of any flavor. Sundays are for showing Lonely Prompts some love, whether by requesting for someone to adopt them or by sharing any fills that you've recently completed.
