Against my better judgment, I've started to watch yet ANOTHER guilty-pleasure tv show online. The new Robin Hood has joined the ranks of Smallville and Oz because I've seen bits of episodes on BBC America and thought it looked cheesy but good. And Guy is hot stuff.
Which, you know, the show is kinda ... odd. Like, in the first episode, every villager with a scarf has the same yellowish-green scarf; and suddenly we're supposed to think "Oh, they totally had t-shirts and trenchcoats in the Middle Ages!" It's like watching really good community theater: the stuff looks mostly authentic, but here and there you can tell that they had to scrape by. The fight scenes are kidna ... well, over-the-top to an extent that I think it's intended. They flip their swords about a little too long, and we get playbacks of leaps and flips like we're watching football. And the Sherriff? He speaks like a man out of time. I mean, they ALL speak like average people thrust into the Middle Ages, but the Sherriff especially so. He's like the Master, but not at all sexy and a lot more icky.

Slash abounds. S' all good. I'm torn on whether to slash Robin/Much or not, because I'm not sure if their 'love' is an ultra-friend thing or a sex-buddies-in-war thing or an ongoing-slashapalooza thing.

I'm told they tie Guy to a tree and gag him later on. That alone is enough to keep me watching.

Anyone know when Djaq shows up? I like Djaq ...

Damnit, I just read some spoilers accidentally for S2. DAMN DAMN DAMN. (Though this upps the slashy potential ...)

Also, Prince John was NOT EVIL. He does not deserve to be forever remembered as a shadowy fiend who taxed the lives and souls out of Nottingham and/or a snivveling, maneless lion. KING RICHARD was the one on a bloody, horrific campaign in the Holy Land, who barely set FOOT in England after being crowned and bankrupted his country and his brother took all the blame. But, of course, everyone loves him. I don't know why. He and his men slaughtered hundreds of POWs in that castle by the sea (ok, Salah al-Din did too, but he was AWESOME and King Richard was a brillian tactition but not in the kickarse way Salah al-Din was. I'm angry the two men never met face-to-face, however, because they were so perfectly matched in some respects.)

Hee hee hee ... did you know that the actor who plays Much is the grandson of the actor who played the Second Doctor? SO cool!

I do not understand Marrion's deal. I mean, sure, Robin is noble and brave and all that jazz, but he looks more like a hobbit than anything. He's the cute kind of hot, like David Tennant (sort of, except DT makes me melt on the inside and Robin doesn't do that to me.) Guy, however, is the sexy-brooding-anti-hero-'save-me-please!' kind of hot. I'd tap that.
Of course, it seems to me that Robin might want to tap that too, so maybe THAT'S Marrion's deal? *sighs*

Robin Hood is awesome crack. Wait for the Ninjas. I love it so much I own the DVD Boxset both in Region 1 and 4. The audio commentaries are hilarious. That and I have a bit of a girl-crush on Marian (and a major one on Guy).

I don't particularly like Robin as a character. He's a bit of a jerk, specially to Much and Marian. I do adore Marian and Guy and their twisted relationship. It gets really great in the second season. I quite enjoy the Sheriff and his insanity.

Yes, the fighting scenes are terrible, as the costumes. But not nearly as sad as the fact that aparently no one in the series knows what a woman looks like.

I think I've seen the ninjas ... is that the one with the psycho guy with the needles and tattoos and Salah-al-Din's brother? Cause that was just AWFUL in the swooshy-funny-kinda-cool way.

Marian reminds me of Annie from Life on Mars for some strange reason.

Yeah, Robin's a bit of a jerk. Then again, he's got good reason to be kinda a prick: life REALLY screwed him over. The villagers he saves occasionally go all Spiderman-populace on him and he's in love with a man who took his house ... I mean ... uh ... oops?

I like Marian and Guy's interactions and as I'm only just beginning the season, that's saying something. I like how Guy is all ... sadistic and evil out in the open but with Marian he was kinda ... nervous and awkward. He teetered between cute-puppy and posessive-freak. Does he do that a lot?

The Sheriff is INSANE. (PILLOW-TALK FTW!) I mean, he's a freak and a jerk and quite possibly insane but ... he makes everything so much more FUN.

Well, the fight scenes are either good or awful. I want more swords. Staves get annoying after a while, seeing as I had to use one for two months in a production of Macbeth when all I wanted was a broadsword.

The costumes are really funny after a while. Like, if you're a main character you look authentic, but if you're an extra or a background character, it's like the costuming department said "Bring in any of your plain clothes that are earthy-toned." I mean, HOODIES? WTF?

But not nearly as sad as the fact that aparently no one in the series knows what a woman looks like.
In reference to Djaq? Or just any old woman? There aren't enough wimmins.

Yep, that's the one. But in s2 Robin gets some ninja time of his own.

I haven't seen LoM yet :( Soon, though.

I understand that he just came back from war and had his land taken away, but hell, he gets quite childish by the end of the season.

he's in love with a man who took his house

Actually, the popular belief (the actors and the writers) is that Guy is the one in love with Robin and that's why he's so desperate to be him. And it's almost official that Sheriff Vasey is gay, he kinda fancies Robin and he gets really touchy-feely (in an incredibly creepy way) with poor Guy.

Guy and Marian's cuteness gets to really awesome levels in the second season. I think they're the ones with the strongest character development. She stops seeing him as a guy(!) with a sick obsession and starts seeing him like a man. But she still manipulates the hell out of him. And it becomes obvious that he's actually in love and would do anything for her (season finale notwithstanding).

Did you catch the guy in the sort of French attire on the first episode, or the Sheriff's sandals/flip-flops. In the second season there are cowboy hats and trenches, and Marian develops a habit of wearing corsets and printed fabrics.

Yes, Djaq mostly, but also some spoilery plot about Marian.

You MUST watch Life on Mars. Really, you must. It's wonderful, and John Simm is so ... CUTE.

That's so ... SAD. *huggles him* I mean, I can see why he doesn't like who he is as himself (people hating his guts and manipulating him and junk.)

And it's almost official that Sheriff Vasey is gay, he kinda fancies Robin and he gets really touchy-feely (in an incredibly creepy way) with poor Guy.
Oh that sick, lucky, LUCKY man. I mean, there should be some, ya know, NON-evil and non-steryotypical gays in TV, but sometimes they're too much fun ...

Good lord ... let's do the Time-Warp again!

Yes, Djaq mostly, but also some spoilery plot about Marian.
Maybe because they all assume kickass fighters who go around defying the law simply have to be men? Or they don't expect to see a woman in pants? Or Guy doesn't want to admit he lost to a girl?
