Aug. 26th, 2008 09:09 pmAh, nothing like frackin' up your sleeping schedule a week before schooling recommences, eh?
That's right, aimisan (I know that your username is different now, dear, but 'aimisan' is easier to remember, I didn't sleep as much as you did) and I had a Doctor Who S3 marathon today/yesterday. It was EPIC as HELL, particularly since we began rather late Monday night AND watched the two-parter finale of S2, which aimisan hadn't seen yet, so by the time we were cheering Donna on, it was past midnight.
aimisan isn't very fond of Martha. Actually, she really doesn't like Martha, at all. It was kinda hard to watch, because while I don't adore Martha, I do LIKE her, and see where she's coming from at bits, and see how she helped the Doctor. Of course, maybe an intensive 16-episode marathon with only one break for sleeping (we stopped after 'Lazarus' at 5:30 AM. I went to sleep when it was getting LIGHT outside! I woke up at quarter to noon, aimisan slept a bit later than me) isn't the best way to ingraciate a Companion to a fan, especially after we just cried about Rose getting trapped on the other side of the wall. I mean, I was mostly crying because
During the course of the marathon:
... ah, that was FUN. I mean, I'm amazed that we finished (abet by 6:30 PM) We need to do that later for Heroes, because she's never seen S1 of Heroes!

I was angry that RTD ruined Rose's perfect (ok, hurtful, yes, but FITTING) send-off and brought her back to give her Doctor Mark Blue. *sighs*
During the course of the marathon:
o I confessed my desire to marry Brannigan and have his kittens.
o aimisan and I concluded that the writers were on serious drugs when they wrote the Daleks in Manhatten two-parter, and she pointed out the rather colorful bricks in the sewers (WTFis up with those?)
o I sang along to the song-and-dance number, and aimisan said I sang better than Tallulah, which was flattering and funny all at once.
o We winced through the Dalek two-parter and the Lazarus episode (bad CGI, people, BAD CGI.) aimisan HATED those pig-men. I did too, since it was really late and dark at that point.
o I realized that '42' is a fantastic episode. One of my favorites, I think, which is odd because most people think of it as the episode where the Doctor's eyes get glowy or they reused some stuff from The Impossible Planet. 'S not, though, it's actually one of the better episodes of S3, and definately on my Top Episodes Of Doctor Who List (if I ever have one ...)
o We BOTH cried during the finale of 'Human Nature/The Family of Blood.' Seriously, that thing deserves AWARDS.
o 'Blink' really scared aimisan. I winced a lot, but it's never scared me as much as it does a lot of other fans. Dunno why, maybe because I've seen it so many times? *shrugs* (Since I hid my face from the Teletubbies, I'd say I'm more of a 'scardy-cat' than her, so don't say mean things about my best friend!)
o aimisan was a bit disturbed by how, once the Master got into the Doctor's TARDIS and locked the door, I cackled. You see, that is the point in which I make the transition from Doctor-fangirl to Master-fangirl. Apparently it's rather scary to witness.
o when the Master answered the phone with "Doctooooooooor" and looked like he was getting off, aimisan's (who's never seen ANY of S3) jaw dropped. We spent the rest of that episode squeeing about how slashy they are.
o in LotTL, aimisan was fully convinced that the Doctor and the Master spent the whole year having sex and accepted my theory that the Master only kept the Doctor old and fugly when there were peoples around, and changed him back to young!David Tennant!Doctor when they were alone, or possibly with Lucy. (Come on, guys, he TOTALLY did!)
o I swore when the Master refused to regenerate. I mean, I love Donna, but the Master as Companion '08 would have been KICK ARSE, and don't you deny it!
o aimisan liked that Martha left the Doctor and was adult about it. I do too, but aimisan still doesn't like Martha. She likes Martha as a character and a person who helps people, but not as a Companion.
o aimisan is so hooked and excited about Doctor Who now that she's going to watch S4. I warned her about 'Voyage of the Damned' and how depressing it is, so perhaps we'll watch that one together.

Date: 2008-08-27 03:14 am (UTC)The Master so had Ten chained up in his bedroom for most of that year. He was, of course, not old and fugly. Why bother with a laser screwdriver if you're not going to use it.
ANd psst.

Date: 2008-08-27 11:00 pm (UTC)*beams* That was the episode where I fully accepted her as a Companion. It drives me MAD that the Doctor took THAT LONG to upgrade her phone AND give her a key, thought I understand why he took so long to get a new Companion after loosing Rose.

*nodnod* It are fact.

True! I mean, the Master's always been one for gadgets, so he'd totally spend hours zapping the Doctor back to normal and then old and fugly, just to prove he COULD.

*sigh* ARGH ... it's on my list ... has been for at least a month ...

LOL. That is totally personal canon now. Because that is exactly what the Master would do, just to show the Doctor how much he controls him.
Ha. Me, too. I keep meaning to read it.

Date: 2008-08-28 03:13 pm (UTC)Well, he'd just had his security blankie forcibly torn away from him, it was taking a while for him to get used to the whole Companion thing again ...
Sill, he took WAY TOO LONG to accept her! I mean, she wasn't fantastic like Donna, but she wasn't useless either.

Mmmmmmmm ... *gets misty-eyed* Imagining a Year-that-never-was that went like that is actually my happy-place ... is that wrong?

Date: 2008-08-29 08:27 pm (UTC)Rose was easier to get along with because she was like the Doctor's savior, whereas Donna was an awesome chick who smacked the Doctor around because that's what he needed after loosing
his boyfriendthe Master.Besides, she's the only one to have recognized when the Doctor's going too far ... AND bring him back from it ... without physical contact.
That is wrong. But that's okay. I'm used to wrong.
*growls* You made me this way ...

They were both exactly what he needed at that point. He needed Rose to heal him, and Donna to rein him in.
*growls* You made me this way ...
It wasn't just me!

Date: 2008-09-03 08:55 pm (UTC)*nodnod* Which is why the arguments of 'which Companion is better' don't make any sense. Each were what the Doctor needed at the time, and for the most part they excelled at their 'jobs.'
It wasn't just me!
Yeah, but you were leading the charge at one point!

Date: 2008-09-04 03:54 am (UTC)I feel like RTD started that whole thing with the Best Companion. And it made me like Rose a lot less. It's more a matter of preference, that "best". I just like Martha and Donna better.
I'm General Perv!

Date: 2008-09-04 09:00 pm (UTC)*nodnod* I was kinda annoyed with Rose in S2, because she goes from 'save the Doctor' to 'GAH I want him but I muzent!' Martha's crush sat better with me for some reason, despite the fact that it took me as long as the Doctor ('42') to fully accept her.
Preference-wise, Donna is my favorite Companion. Perhaps because she's the closest to what the Doctor/Companion relationship should be, since the Time War? The healthiest relationship, I suppose.
I'm General Perv!
*sporfles* You need some kind of huge hat with a pink feather ...

Date: 2008-09-10 10:59 pm (UTC)Me too! And not a lesbian who leaves the Doctor at the end of the season and is all 'Never mind, I'm a lesbian, I'm gonna join Torchwood now!' and honest-to-goodness lesbian.
Which is probably why the Companion I invented for Season 5 (that I'm writing with phoenixjustice) is a lesbian. She's gonna meet Jack in episode 6, and BOY is he in for a surprise ...
I like Martha better, though Donna is so very awesome. Though Donna definitely had the healthiest relationship with the Doctor.
I like Martha and feel awful for her and all the hate she gets from fans, but Donna is my favorite (so far, and only in New Who. SJS comes pretty dang close ...) mostly because of the relationship she and the Doctor had. It was just ... right, ya know?
All hail General Perv and her big floofy hat!

Date: 2008-09-11 01:31 am (UTC)Donna is pretty much in a deadlock. I love Donna, but Martha is just so damn cool. Sarah Jane is also very awesome.
And disturbingly phallic sword!

I'm definitely psyched to read about this S5!lesbian of yours.

Oh, thank god.
You're telling me! I'm making an effort here, really, I am: I'm a vegetarian, she's not. She has NO attraction to guys, I like guys and am confuzzled about how I feel towards girls. I love my family and have a good relationship with my parents, her family are homophobic pricks who kicked her out of the house, etc.

she's relatively hot, too.

Date: 2008-08-27 04:32 am (UTC)I have very little love for s3. And Martha. Like... I don't hate her or anything... I respect her and think she's sweet and very pretty and quite smart and gutsy and blah blah, but she kind of gets on my nerves? Like, her voice? I can't really explain it.
Anyway, 42 and Gridlock are totes my favourites.

S3 is about the Master, and the Doctor with and without him, so I like it a lot.
Yeah, Martha isn't fantastic, but the Doctor helped her to become badass, and
I should probably compile a listy ...
Sound of Drums
42
Turn Left
Gridlock
Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel
The Doctor Dances/The Girl in the Fireplace
In that basic order ... course, seeing as I have trouble deciding whether my favorite doctor is 8, 9, or 10 ...

Date: 2008-08-28 06:06 pm (UTC)i loved our marathon.
i'm still alive by the way. my evil patriarch "aka daddy dearest" did not kill me to death.
i miss you!
wanna hint about your b-day gift?
it involves orange.
and now, abotu this martha girl. i mean, sure she was evil as a companion but i really ought to have given her a fairer chance. poor thing. she was hooked by the doctor's charms. i don't blame her. i've given up my vendetta against her
she is really kind of...necessary?
b/c without the sense that there can be issues with female companions, it would be cheapened when there's a really AWESOME companion!
like rose.
and potentially donna, apparently.
tell your cat "hello!"
