The Host (+ Reaper)
Jun. 22nd, 2008 12:47 amOk, The Host? Officially one of my all-time favorite books. Even if you're one of the people who doesn't like Stephanie Meyer, you should read this book, because it is so radically different from her Twilight/New Moon/Eclipse books that you wouldn't notice.
The Host sounds like a crappy body-snatchers type thing, aliens taking over Earth, and all that, and, in part, it kinda is. It's told from the POV of a 'soul' who is given the body of a young human woman ... but the woman whose body it originally was is fighting back.
The Host isn't even really about aliens. It's about humans and humanity. The concept of bringing in an opposing force to talk about the other force is handled incredibly well in this book, as is the 'bizarre' love square involving THREE bodies and four minds.
Yeah, I know, it sounds godawful and really weird, but it sucked me in, made me peek ahead a few times in terror, and when it was done, I CRIED.
Really, please read this book. There's no slash (sadly) but it's a fantastic book that's written very well with a very intriguing concept and ... yeah, I'm explaining it awfully, so just go out and read it please.
ZOMG!
Just finished Reaper (at last, I've been at this for AGES ... damn you, c_quinn! You're the reason I haven't been able to watch LoM! *huggles her all the same*)
It was cute. Very at times, embarrassing at others, and sometimes I wondered why I was watching it. Then the Devil would make another joke, or there'd be yet another HoYay moment, and I'd smile and continue. It's got definite hints of BtVS, but also of all those lame-ass slacker movies.
It's worth a watch, though. Not priority, though, but definitely a fun ride. (Also, Heroes fans, spot Candice being NICE!)
Of course, with the kinda-sorta-maybe 'revelation' from the finale and second-to-last episode that the Devil MIGHT be Sam's daddy made me scream obscenities and stamp my feet in anger.
This is because the Devil has mad chemistry with Sam, and to make them related is just ... ugh! *shudders*
I couldn't handle that, because I've been taking the referenced mad chemistry and slashing them in my head during the past few months that I've been watching this show. And you all know how I feel about incesty-pairings.
Seriously. I am SO GREATFUL that there is a (very slim, I'm afraid) possibility that the Devil is Sam's daddy, so I can hold off the brain-bleach until the show returns, but if that's gonna be in the fall or next January, IMDb.com chatrooms are reluctant to specify.
*kerslump* I is tired. I need to go to bed, seeing as it's now ... HOLY RASSILON'S EARMUFFS! ONE in the MORNING?!
(I need to rest up, Doctor Who tomorrow ... today ... yesterday for you lucky British peoples ...)

Date: 2008-06-23 03:42 am (UTC)Yeah, but besides that bit, it was fantastic. And, no offense to Ms. Meyer, but the Twilight books are ... not the best writing I've encountered. Some of it's great, but a lot of it is pointless school-drama, and Bella being an idiot, and Jake getting shafted again and again.
*sigh* I read it for the werewolves and vampires, mostly Jake and Alice *huggles them* I have a girl-crush on Alice, it is very strange.
... whoa ... you can tell I'm up too late when I ramble like that!

Basically something that merits slashiness. A slashy moment.

Sam's too ... cute and helpless to be the antichrist.
And, a-ha, HoYay! I learn something new everyday :D
Hee hee! I learned the term a while back, because I read TWoP recaps.

Date: 2008-06-23 07:06 pm (UTC)Just remember that Sylar belongs with Mohinder; and if Sam's not related to him, Sam belongs with the Devil.
