Better dust off this blog and make things presentable!
I've backed up my tumblr, but it was the WHOLE tumblr, which was over 77,000 posts (included all those reblogs.) I'm working on getting the python coding to work so I can pull specific tags, otherwise it'll be quite the lengthy process. I've been meaning for years to crosspost here more often, or go back and copy/paste my original posts to here. And I kept putting it off and putting it off, and now I'm paying for it.
But don't worry, I'm here, and on twitter, and AO3, and discord, and I'm safe, and my stuff is backed up. I'm going to focus on making sure I have the contact info of people I met on tumblr, and trying to get more specific python coding information so I can get the specific tags backed up in a more organized fashion.
Please please please, take the time to backup your tumblrs! They're flagging everything, and this seems like another Strikethrough but so much worse.
With the holidays, my job, and now this, I don't know how much new content I'll be posting here in the short term. But I will be updating more frequently in the new year. Ideally, my tumblr survives, and I have time to go back through and copy/paste old text posts of mine to here. Those will be marked and dated with the original posted date and context as best I can.

Date: 2018-12-04 10:53 pm (UTC)I feel awful for sex workers and nsfw artists who are losing their safe platform and big audiences. It will be hard to recover for them, or impossible for some.
I'm ok, my close friends are mostly ok with some exceptions.
I do hope there's more activity on dreamwidth now. If nothing else, this will motivate me to go copy/paste all my original posts over here, like I've been meaning to for years.

Date: 2018-12-09 08:00 pm (UTC)Tumblr was great for showing me stuff I hadn't known about before. Introducing me to new people and perspectives, new friends, new ideas. I got into so many shows, books, movies, bands, because of Tumblr. I learned so much about politics and history all over the world. And it was very easy to reblog pretty art.
I'm going to miss that aspect a lot. Dreamwidth is great for making insular communities, not so much for exposure to new ideas and people.
If Dreamwidth expands its image hosting capabilities, that could really turn the tide. I think people will be scattered for a while but dreamwidth could be a stable hub. if nothing else, artists can link to galleries elsewhere. It's not a perfect solution but it's something.

Date: 2018-12-14 07:22 am (UTC)when my mind wants to bethat's gonna be fucked for a while, especially since - unlike apparently the vast majority of my prolific film gif editing peers - nothing's ever gonna make me like Twitter as a "home." (Discord and Instagram are great, but the former's not exactly the most organized dumping ground and the latter's got its formatting restrictions.) I unfortunately hold very little hope about expansions on the image hosting anytime soon, but hopefully I'll be somewhat alright here anyway as I (FINALLY!) wean off of Tumblr in the coming weeks/months and just wait for the potential next big thing. On the bright side, though, I'm glad I can technically privatize my entire blog on a whim with a lot less hassle again. There's that, I guess.
