I like how this episode is showing Octavia returned to her greatest fear: being locked up in a small place again. It’s very upsetting.
I’m such a sucker for flashback episodes too. I’m just … really enjoying this. A lot. It’s well done.

You know, I have no way of telling whether they’re gonna kill Shaggy Hair or not. Like, they’ve killed important characters before. And they’ve killed cannon fodder. And they’ve spared cannon fodder and important characters. I just can’t predict with this show. The stakes are very poorly defined, in terms of which characters I should be concerned for and how much gore is going to be shown.

Has no one introduced the concept of polyamory to these children? Like I seriously doubt in a future culture where babies are limited and space is limited, people wouldn’t start messing with “traditional” concepts of marriage (such as they are.)

YAY THE MOM KNOWS HER DAUGHTER IS ALIVE OH THANK GODS.
This is why I’m still watching. The mom.

Oh gods they caught Mad Max Batman. This can’t end well.
Especially not when he’s a PoC character and has tribal tattoos and they’re interrogating him even though he probably doesn’t speak English.
Is it time for the colonial subtext already?!

Oooooooo, powerful blonde lady is a worker’s rights lobbyist with ambitions. I like her already.

So, Mad Max Batman over there has tattoos on his spine. That means he can handle SERIOUS PAIN.
I don’t think a bunch of hormonal teenagers are gonna do a good job of causing this guy pain he can’t handle. ESPECIALLY if he used like, old style tattoo techniques, not the nice sleek tattoo guns they have today.

Oh dear. Kane (because I have given up on finding a silly nickname for him) gets confronted by angry citizens who think their loved ones sacrificed themselves for nothing.
Space Obama decides to hold a press conference, FINALLY, to give people answers. Kane looks like a kicked puppy. It’s a good look on him. He’s shaping up to be one of my favs, after that bad first impression in the pilot he’s developing dimensions and depth.
Now I ship Space Obama/Kane. There’s some delicious D/s subtext going on that I quite enjoy.
Also, I just looked up the actor, and now I know why his face is so familiar. It’s Desmond from Lost!

Space Obama starts crying and when strong male leaders cry it breaks my heart so much.
Blonde Politician Lady is a great spin doctor. I’m looking forward to seeing her move forward. I hope she’s not the assassination plotter. But I’m guessing she is.

WHOA. Everyone torturing the guy. That was … uncomfortable for all the right reasons. A tense and brutal scene. Very well handled. I’m not sure why Mad Max Batman cares about Octavia but whatever, he has attractive muscles, I’m ok seeing them on display for a long scene.

INCLUDING ME.
MOM AND BLONDIE HAVING AN ANGSTY TALK AND BOTH ARE CRYING.
SPACE OBAMA WAS CRYING.
NOW SPACE DESMOND IS CRYING.
EVERYBODY IS CRYING.
(On a side note, seeing men displaying emotions in this way is quite rare in American media. Men seldom ever cry, especially not Manly Strong Leader Men. Seeing them in moments of vulnerability is a great writing tactic. I am pleased.)

Also, since he kidnapped her and chained her up in his house, I’m pretty sure they’re even now that he’s been kidnapped and chained up in HER house.
Not the healthiest start to a relationship, but anything to get more PoC on the cast.

I don’t like this whole shipteasing Blondie/Bellend. He’s made some good points lately but he’s still a bellend. Hows about Blondie, Shaggy Hair, and Raven start a nice triad together? That’s a healthy relationship. Bellend/Anyone is not healthy right now.

Utto, they only have escape pods for 700 people, out of 2,000+ people. This won’t end well.
