Kill Bill vs. Labyrinth

I've bee busy. Working on my script, trying not to get used to having no roommate in a double room in the dorms (long story, but I have no roommate at the moment and have no idea if/when I'll get one), crying and feeling sad about the end of To Boldly Flee and the Nostalgia Critic, trying to sort out my feelings about Spoony especially in light of his commentaries on To Boldly Flee, not sleeping enough, playing the Dresden Files RPG with friends via Google+, keeping track of all the shows I'm supposed to go to including a production of Rocky Horror which two of my friends are starring in, limping because of my stupid toenail, working in the scene shop, and oh yeah, classes ...
... I have to chose the subject for the big ongoing project for one of my classes. We can chose a play or musical to hypothetically turn into a movie, or a movie to hypothetically turn into a play or musical.
(I fucking love my school. : D )
I'm torn between Kill Bill and Labyrinth.
Yes. I feel like Kill Bill would be challenging, maybe too challenging, but also badass and full of gore. And difficult to get research material for. On the other hand, Labyrinth could be this cool Nutcracker-esque adventure with changing sets and I could research mythology for that.
Thoughts?

Not that Kill Bill wouldn't have been badass, but I think it would have been a lot more difficult and challenging than the project really calls for. I'd rather do something challenging but creatively fun. Not that I'm choosing the easy option, either way the project requires a lot of research and serious writing and reflection and visual collections.

I just wanna write fanfic about silly internet critics, is that really so much to ask? *wibbles*

Date: 2012-09-19 02:55 am (UTC)*wants to huggle him* Silly man, you created a character who updated once a week (sometimes moreso!) for over four years on a popular internet site and inspired many other critics and fans to follow in your footsteps. What did you expect?!
and the Spoony irritation (darling the only relationship that fucked up was you and Scarlett, Todd/Lindsay and the others have done nothing un-professional)
Listening to his commentary was tough. On the one hand, I'm happy he was acknowledging that he fucked up and was awful on Twitter and wasn't using his mental state as an excuse for his behavior, and I'm extremely relieved that he's got a better therapist who is giving him the right medication.
And I'm neutral about the whole money/business/stuff. I mean, it's interesting to hear about that, but we don't know for sure how much of that is his perception of some people, his viewpoint as one of the more popular reviewers, or him bitching out a company that suspended him and then let go/fired/let him go/whatever happened.
As for the relationship thing ... yeah, no, Spoony, after the Scarlett thing you kinda lost the right to criticise people about that ... unless there was some big blowup and obvious scandal. It's true that "cast incest" can destroy projects or productions (I've experienced it myself) but saying that about your coworkers/friends/second-family is really low. I've seen great couples who act alongside each other, and I've seen relationships that have almost destroyed projects. It's a case by case basis.
And let's be fair, for all we know, Todd and Lindsay or Alison and Phelan could be insufferable behind the scenes ...
... but somehow I doubt it and think that it's Spoony trying to get a last jab at Alison or reacting like a lot of people do after a bad breakup by bashing other relationships. And even if they are tough to work with, it's not showing up on Twitter or spiraling into scandals. I mean, for heaven's sake, Brad and Jillian just separated and they're still on incredibly good terms, she's still in his videos! And that unfortunate incident with Jerrid happened, and Brad still put Jerrid in a video cameo a while afterwards. I hope that Brad's professionalism rubs off on Spoony, sounds like working on the set of the Cinema Snob Movie inspired Spoony towards acting. I wish him well, I just don't know how to feel about him anymore beyond "thank god you're getting the professional help you need." And I'm kinda guiltily glad he's not attached to the website anymore, he may bring in the viewers but he's not worth the risk to the company anymore. Which is awful, but I'm glad that Holly and Doug and Rob and Mike didn't feel compelled to ignore all of that and keep Spoony on despite his attacks on Twitter to fans and coworkers alike.
Yeah, I'mma go with Labyrinth. For many reasons, chief among them that our professor requires us to "justify" the hypothetical adaptation of our subject, and me saying that Kill Bill needs to be a stage play "because it would be AWESOME!" would not fly. He's a cool funny teacher, but I need a better justification than "blood and guts and Japanese music! :D"

Date: 2012-09-21 08:41 pm (UTC)As for the last part, I'm not even sure how much of it Doug had anything to do with. He was on honeymoon when the real big shit went down, and he's always called himself too stupid and naive to deal with anything business-related. So it makes it even worse when people blame him for "betraying a friend".

Date: 2012-09-21 08:55 pm (UTC)Yeah, that's just ... yeesh, no. Blip sees popular people they can make money off of, so they offer deals. Relatively new companies can't get away with nepotism/favoritism, they'll just self-destruct if they do that. Hell, even old established companies get into trouble with that sort of thing. I can't see Blip making that kind of move at all, that's just dumb. I'd be suspicious if someone reviewing obscure stuff with poorly edited reviews who just so happened to be dating a more popular Blip person was getting picked up, but Todd reviews very popular songs in a short and hilarious format, so it's perfectly understandable.

True. It's a really unfortunate business. And it's not like Spoony had no warning, he got called out by people on Twitter numerous times, then a suspension, and then ... he's not on the site anymore. And they kept checking in with him to make sure he was ok. Meanwhile the internet freaked out. I think they handled it as best they could. I hope this is a wake up call for people to either start being more professional on their twitters, or to get private accounts for when they talk with their coworkers/close friends and fan twitters for fan interactions. I think they're at the point where they need to make those divisions.

Date: 2012-09-21 09:09 pm (UTC)And I actually agree with the twitter thing. It's fantastically sweet that they leap to anyone's defense constantly, and it proves that they mean what they say with all the family stuff, but... say... Kyle calling tumblr worthless because they (and I, honestly) thought Lindsay's Charlie's Angels review was horrible, makes tension fly, gives off the impression that he can't take a friend getting criticism and creates more work for Holly.
