Nightmare

I seldom get nightmares. I have bad dreams, yeah, mostly to do with being stuck in the ground while my cat waltzes out the door into the big bad world (she's an indoor cat and I live in a place that's dangerous for small pets to be outside alone at night) or things that are upsetting or disturbing in the dream but not frightening when I wake up.

When I do have a real nightmare it's very rare, and it tends to be me being slightly awake and thinking there's some shadowy shape watching me.
Like just now. I screamed a LOT. And once I realized I was awake I realized I was about to fall out of my bed. That wouldn't be that big a deal for most people, but my bedstead is very old and thus very high off of the ground. So that was scary too. And I'm all shaky and stuff. And Facebook is down so I can't talk to my friends from college who are no doubt up right now too.

I was trying to do the right thing and go to sleep at a semi-decent hour. Now I don't want to go back to sleep.

I'm gonna find something nice to watch. Then listen to an audiobook. And maybe sleep again. I'm so tired.

I hope you feel better soon!
When I'm having troubles sleeping, I usually drink some warm tea and it helps, especially if it is Tila Tea (I'm not sure if you can get it at your local store, but give it a try) or chamomile with valerian. The brand doesn't really matter, just the infusion.

For me it was a combination of webcomics, searching through archives of the fanmix community, and a MLP episode that got me calmed down ... or overtired enough to chance going back to sleep at the crack of dawn.

I'll consider the tea, though. I have lots of friends who swear by tea. I can't really stand the stuff myself, but if I have to I'll drink it (like when I was sick and my roommate made me tea and forced me to drink it all and go to bed early and skip my Tuesday classes.)

Reminds me of when I was seven or so, when I had these recurring dreams of these dark-clothed beings taking away coffins which I was pretty sure had the bodies of my family. I even tried sleeping in different places in the house to see if it would help, but it didn't work, and it probably just made it worse. My parents ended up making me share my room with my sister in order to solve the problem. I was pissed at that (and I think my sister was crying because it meant that she would no longer be sharing a room with our parents), but oddly enough, I never had those nightmares again after that.

Unfortunately, those were my sleeping arrangements until I was thirteen or so, when we moved to a slightly bigger house I would not be surprised if those recurring nightmares are one of the reasons that I usually can't sleep for more than four or so hours a night, even on the few times that I tried a sleeping pill or two.
