YOU BRITISH WANKERS HOW DARE YOU LEAVE IT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*coughs*
Ahem.

So, this show is fucking fantastic. But you already knew that if you've spent any time online in the past year. I knew it was going to be good. I watched the first episode last night anyways. I said "well, it's long, but I'll stop off somewhere about 20 minutes in and then go to sleep." But there were no stopping-off points. The humor, the talented actors, the homoerroticism, the cinematography ... wow. Fantastic, fantastic show.
Props for the subversion thing with Mycroft. I was all "that's Moriarty? Odd choice ... bit of a risk, showing him off so soon ..." and then towards the end I got the feeling that it might be Mycroft because, well, Mycroft and Moriarty being who they are it didn't fit in my brain. I grinned like a loon when they revealed it was Mycroft after all. Also, who was that bitch who was working for him? I felt I was supposed to like her but I just wanted to give her a smack.

Also, Mrs. Hudson FTW. FOR THE WIN, PEOPLE.

Didn't much care for the second episode, but what the hey, it gave us great character interactions and a female character who yeah, got tied up and threatened with a death trap but she whacked the bad guys over the head with a big stick without any prompting and continued to date dangerous Watson, so props to her! She and Sherlock can share Watson. I'm seeing flowcharts and schedules. They are color-coded.

Third episode ... WOW. Wow oh wow. It was a great show already and then they went and did all of that.

(First off, though, I will never forgive the show for the Golem. I am going to have nightmares now. He gave me "Hush" flashbacks in the worst possible way.)

I'd read spoilers and knew the Moriarty spoiler, but really, even without it I might have guessed. Flirting with Sherlock and slipping him his number? Greeting Sherlock with "Hello ... sexy ..." and saying "I like to watch you dance" ... how very Simm!Master of you, Moriarty. I'm pleased. I'm very, VERY pleased. I'm so pleased I'm not even that horribly pissed off about the cliffhanger ending. No, really.

HE CALLED WATSON SHERLOCK'S "PET!!!!!!!" AALFKJDFLAJSKDLJSALDJA!!!!!

Seriously, though, I already had a thing for psychopath archenemies of main characters in media, and Moriarty hit practically ALL of my buttons in a matter of MINUTES. That is damn IMPRESSIVE. I was eating him up with a spoon, people, a SPOON. Still, that bit where he yelled made me flinch and my enjoying-this-psycho smile slid right onto the floor. That dude conveyed that he is Not Right In the Head in ONE LINE. Fantastic actor. I loved the way he trilled his lines, it was so delightfully "tee hee ... I'm so evil and I'm playing with my fancy new toy ... oh dear, I think I'll have to break my new toy now, what a shame ..." in a way that wasn't cheesy or annoying but actually WORKED.

Also, not gonna lie, when this happened:

Moriarty: Do you know what happens if you don't leave me alone, Sherlock? To you?
Holmes: Oh let me guess, I get killed.
Moriarty: Kill you? No. Don't be obvious. I mean I'm going to kill you anyway someday. I don't want to rush it though. I'm saving it up for something special.

... I was practically jumping up and down with glee. My deep, dark, disturbing kinks, let me show you them.

Oh, and I didn't go to sleep tonight. I stayed up all night. It's now after 6:30 am. I should go to bed. Or should I go have breakfast? *keels over onto bed*

I honestly thought that was how that line was going to go down. Because John is so Sherlock's heart.

Oooh, you watched it! Isn't it awesome? The scene with Moriarty at the pool was indeed incredible. And I may be somewhat taken with Benedict Cumberbatch's voice. ^_^

Have a couple fic recs that I think would especially appeal to you:
The Paradox Series. Practically required reading. Features a Sherlock who's a touch madder than in the series, with excellent character moments and great smut. Set aside a weekend to curl up with this series, as it's quite long.
Autopsis. Manages to use knife/blood play to suggest that maybe Sherlock's not a complete sociopath after all.
The Lorem Ipsum Series. The definitive Sarah/John/Sherlock. Smut! Angst! Torture! And it ends in a wedding! Another nice long series.

Yes, it's very, very awesome! Now I wanna rewatch it!

The scene with Moriarty at the pool was indeed incredible.
I was squeeing the whole way through.

And I may be somewhat taken with Benedict Cumberbatch's voice. ^_^
Oooooo, me too! Makes me wanna be the thing he's focussing on ... *toes curl*

Thank you very much for the links! I read Autopsis, that was GLORIOUS, the others I'll get to later, when I'm not so pressed for time.

I have a podfic of Autopsis (by an incredible podfic recorder), and I've never actually listened to it because the text version did enough of a number on me that I'm really not sure how I'll react to it vocalized. *shiver*

What's a podfic? I've never heard of that ... sounds interesting, though!

You've never heard of podfic? It's basically a recording of someone (or sometimes more than one person) reading a fanfic out loud. This can also include the readers doing different voices for different characters, adding music, or adding other sound effects. It can be quite effective.

This is the fanlore article on podfic.

This is the post on podfic in [livejournal.com profile] newbieguide.

This is the podfic of Autopsis I was talking about. It's also available in audiobook format. It's read by the awesome fayjay/[livejournal.com profile] pandarus.

There's whole communities of people reading fanfics and making mp3 files of it?!

*grinz like a Cheshire Cat*

Oh, this is better than the day I found out about the free podcasts on iTunes!

Thank you so much! *downloads and puts on iPod*

Mycroft's assistant is Anthea! Or, that's the name she gave John anyway, it's not her real name. And I love her. She just gives 0 fucks about anything. Sometimes that's all that's required to get me to like a character - them giving zero fucks and being awesome while giving 0 fucks. Like Han in Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.

But yeah, Sherlock is pretty great. The second episode was kind of crap (I could write essays on why it's crap, actually, but I've have to dig out my literary theory and i"m too lazy to do that) And Moriarty is the greatest.

Usually I like characters like that, but something about her rubbed me entirely the wrong way. I really, really don't like her at all. She just kept grinning and texting away and ignoring John ... and I didn't like her. Maybe if I rewatch the episode I'll change my mind?

But yeah, Sherlock is pretty great.
Holy heckhounds, that's true!

Yeah, I could see what they were trying to do, but it didn't work out so hot. The Banksy Expy made me giggle, and Sarah hitting bad guys over the head with a stick was awesome ... but yeah, that episode wasn't very good at all.

And Moriarty is the greatest.
Yes, yes he is. *giggles and squees forever* It's like Simm!Master and ATG had a lovechild!

Well she DOES work for the most important man in the government, I'm sure she's really fucking busy and was doing awesome shit like ordering assassinations or something.

and ignoring John

LOL. See, I got the impression that she was kind of charmed by his awkwardness. I don't think many guys would actually have the nerve to ask her out, she's intimidating!

Yeah, I could see what they were trying to do, but it didn't work out so hot.

There's all kinds of Orientalism and stuff, and Sherlock really kind of has a problem with its women which was made pretty clear in that episode.

True, true ... I SHOULD like her, but I really didn't.

Aren't we all ... *pats John onna head*

I did love that bit, where he asked her out and she seemed pleasantly surprised.

Well, the books had it's fair share of "Orientalism" which makes people cringe nowadays, but they could have updated that in a modern context in a way that WOULDN'T have made people cringe ... maybe? But they didn't.

and Sherlock really kind of has a problem with its women which was made pretty clear in that episode.
Yeah, that bothered me. The female characters are, for the most part, not handled very well at all. But then you have Sarah hitting people over the head and Mrs. Hudson being kickass ... so I dunno. Sherlock is a show very confused about women, much like the original character, I think.

Yeah, that was great.
*SQUEE* Sarah FTW!

Oh my god, it is. LOLing forever now.
Because you know it's true!

I wanted to like her. There was just something about her that made me glare and hiss. I don't know why. Maybe it was the constant texting? At college, a lot of people around me are constantly texting and it's irksome to me, especially when we're in the middle of a conversation or dinner or something.

The texting bothered me too, but then I justified it that she was writing Sherlock/John fanfic or reading it and commenting. She, Molly and Mrs. Hudson, leader's of the sherlock/john comm on livejournal.

achika_chan could be right about her needing to txt. I mean, I didn't feel like she was trying to be rude, and it showed how much of a ladykiller Watson is that, not only did he try to charm her, but he at least got a smile. I think that scene, more than any other, convinced me that Mr. Freeman has Ladykiller!Watson down. Like achika said, it would take balls to try and chat up a lady like that.

True, I didn't think of it like that ... that's a good point ... *ponders*

Now I have to go back and rewatch the first episode, and, indeed, the whole show. Because I watched it when I was extremely tired and my head was full of visions of Cthulhu and US Marshals and drug runners and slashy detectives, so I might not have been at my best.

It's like, Sherlock/Watson is straight up HoYay, comforting and cuddly and adorable and sexy and wonderful and Watson anchoring Sherlock and Sherlock making Watson feel alive and hilarity and kinkiness and possessiveness and protection ...

... and then there's Sherlock/Moriarty, which is glorious FoeYay of the best kind, between people who are so similar and so isolated from the rest of society that they're going to be attracted to each other because there simply isn't anyone else LIKE THEM (see also, Doctor/Master) and the one who's cut loose keeps trying to get the one who's still clinging to some codes to break free and have sweet, violent, disturbing sex with them on the Dark Side after murdering everybody that they knew. Also, GUNS.
