I was remembering last summer when I was in 'Much Ado About Nothing' and my part was turned into a woman because it was set int he forties. I was a skank. I had a fake cigarette that puffed smoke and heels. I had this squarish dress that was blue and silver with sparkles, and a long, slinky black one, like Ginger's dresses on Gilligan's Island.
It was only after the play was over that a relation told me I'd been 'smoking' the cigarette like a joint. I've done neither in real life, so I didn't have a clue. Then we all had a good laugh about how I'd put the cigarette into my little purse without pretending to stub it out, and then I'd take it back out again in my next scene. Another relation giggled about how he'd been waiting for the bag to catch fire.
This year I've got plum pantaloons, TIGHTS (ergh!), and this golden shirt that makes me look like a tacky Christmas tree. I love it. I look ridiculous. I can't WAIT for the hat they're still looking for ...
