Track 4: Villain Mix
You can tell I like the bad guys, because this is the longest playlist of the whole mix.
01: Passive –
It's your right and your ability
To become my perfect enemy
(A good place to start, methinks. A hero is nothing without his/her villain, after all.)
02: Sharp Dressed Man – ZZ Top
Gold watch, diamond ring,
I ain’t missin’ a single thing.
And cufflinks, stick pin,
When I step out I’m gonna do you in.
(When villains look good, we approve, because Evil Is Sexy.)
03: Everybody Wants to Rule the World – Tears for Fears
It’s my own design
It’s my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world
(Seriously, everybody does. It’s a miracle things aren’t getting crowed at this point, with so many ‘I shall rule the world! Mwhahahaha!’ whackos running around.)
04: Scientist – The Dandy Warhols
We've gotta live on science alone
Religiously I'm speaking on the science 'cause
We've gotta live on science alone
I tell you what mathematically I'm having it
I want to live on science alone
(I’ve got this mad scientist kink … yeah.)
05: Weird Science – Hellogoodbye
Weird science
Magic and technology
Voodoo dolls and chants
Electricity
We’re makin’
Weird science
(This fanmix is brought to you by SCIENCE!!!)
06: Scooby Snacks – Fun Lovin Criminals
They gave chase,
But my man Steve is an ace;
We lost those brothers with haste.
We casted off and along we went
Off
Running around robbing banks
All wacked off of Scooby Snacks!
(This is a weird song. Seeing as how superheroes always stop at least ONE bank robbery – if not several – it seemed fitting. Those villains need money to start up, after all.)
07: Secret – The Pierces
Look into my eyes
Now you're getting sleepy
Are you hypnotized
By secrets that you're keeping?
(…)
’cause two can keep a secret
If one of them is dead…
(Villains keep lots of secrets, or blackmail people with secrets they already know. They also spend a lot of time trying to figure out the secret identity of their arch-enemy.)
08: Mr. Self Destruct – Nine Inch Nails
I am the lie that you believe
And I control you
I take you where you want to go
I give you all you need to know
I drag you down, I use you up
Mr. Self-Destruct
(A suitably creepy song about a creepy villain.)
09: Viva La Vida – Coldplay
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become
(Clichéd at this point, I know, but still, it’s a nice song. And it fits for a slightly remorseful villain.)
10: James – Blue October
Kneel down
Close your eyes
Hit the ground
I want you to, to kneel all day
Alone in this desolate cave
So I said
Scream if you want to
’cause no one is around
(This song puts me in mind of a triumphant villain who’s finally captured his nemesis and is gleefully torturing him.)
11: I’m Bad – The Last Vegas
You can say that I'm the devil and there's nothing you can do about it.
Nothing you can do ’cause I'm bad.
(…)
Destruction is in high gear and your heart is what I sell.
Now pack your bags, we're leaving here.
I'm taking you to hell.
(Some villains know that they’re evil, and delight in being rotten to the core …)
12: I Fought the Law – The Clash
Breakin' rocks in the hot sun
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won
I needed money 'cause I had none
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won
(The villains pretty much always end up in jail. Granted, they’re usually Cardboard Prisons, but still.)
13: Almost Human – Voltaire
I'm just like you
Made by he
Despised by they
I'm almost me
I'm nearly human look at me
I'm almost a human being
(We never really think about what happens to people who fall from grace. It’s too uncomfortable. The trend of black-and-white morals is slowly but surely petering out, but it still feels weird for us to sympathize or relate to the ‘bad’ guys.)
14: I’m Your Villain – Franz Ferdinand
I know what I am
And I'm your villain
Although I don't give a damn if
I'm your villain
(And to conclude … they are lying knaves!)

Bonus Track: Villains in Love, Fangirls in Worship
Femme fatales, fangirls, fanboys, foe-yay, this mix has got it all!
01:
I made this half-pony half-monkey monster to please you
But I get the feeling that you don't like it
What's with all the screaming?
You like monkeys, you like ponies
Maybe you don't like monsters so much
Maybe I used too many monkeys
Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?
(I friggin’ LOVE this song. If someone went through all the trouble of making a half-pony/half-monkey creature just for ME, I’d at least give them a chance. Then again, I have got a mad-scientist kink, but I do think this that song is adorable, and hilarious, and a great way to start this mix.)
02: Somewhere They Can’t Find Me – Simon and Garfunkel
But I've got to creep down the alley way,
Fly down the highway,
Before they come to catch me I'll be gone.
Somewhere they can't find me.
Oh baby, you don't know what I've done,
I've committed a crime, I've broken the law.
(A song for the villain who loves his paramour, but has to leave before the cops/heroes track him down. Kinda the reverse of the hero who is forever leaving his girlfriend to protect her from his enemies.)
03: Flathead – the Fratellis
Hey flathead don't you get mean
She's the second-best killer that I have ever seen
They don't come much more sick than you
I could go on if you want me to
It's just so wrong so very nice
I told you once and you killed me twice
(I think that this song is about a femme fatale, but closer inspection reveals that the singer seems to be telling a villain about a femme fatale he knows. *shrugs* However you want to interpret it, here it is.)
04: Please Destroy Me – Get Set Go
Kiss me, hurt me, don't desert me
Smack me 'round and do pervert me
Break me, take me, love me, hate me
Overwhelm and desecrate me
Please destroy me
Oh, please destroy me
Oh, please destroy me
I'm in love with you
(Foe-Yay song!)
05: Swinging
I read your manifestoes and your strange religious tracts.
You took me to your library and kissed me in the stacks.
Planets crash, the world goes nova,
Sun explodes, all goes black.
You went off swinging
And forgot to come back
(This is one of the songs that made me decide to make the mix. This is a song for the rare male fanboy, who becomes utterly besotted with a villain/mad scientist … and then the world ends.)
06: Boytoy Baby – Maria Mena
Romance
I don't want no romance
Just grab me with your hands
And leave when I'm done
Honey
You can keep all your money
I want you to owe me
It's just a game that I play
(Another femme fatale song. I do so love those femme fatales.)
07: Bonnie and
And we will drive like bandits
On the Queensway
We'll hold hands like in the movies
I'll say “Oh
And you'll just capture me like it was
Armed robbery.
We'll pass through
And I'll steal you something pretty
You'll say “Man, well aren't I lucky
I've gone and found myself a crooked lady”
(Fangirl song, for girls who daydream of dangerous men sweeping them off their feet.)
08: Where Are You Going – Dave Matthews Band
I am no hero
Oh, that’s for sure
But I do know one thing:
Where you go is where I want to be.
Where are you going?
Where do you go?
Are you looking for answers
For reasons under the stars
If along the way, you are growing weary
You can rest with me until a brighter day
(Any villain would be lucky to have the person in this song looking after them, especially when their hovercraft has been towed, their doomsday device has been smashed by the heroes, and the cops are on their tail.)
09: What She Came For – Franz Ferdinand
With a laugh like that, or a look like that.
You makes us all feel gauche,
Like it's a smutty joke but,
(…)
Look out, you're what she came for.
You're what she came for.
No question, no doubt.
(Yet another femme fatale song. This one seems to be divided into two perspectives: the narrator observing the main character’s attractiveness, and then the narrator warning the main character that the femme fatale has set her sights on said main character. Main character, beware!)
10: Some Girls – Seanan McGuire
Some girls like the creatures, although assembly's required.
Some girls like the madmen, they say true love should be inspired.
Some girls like the hunchbacks, they're only looking for a willing slave...
But if wanna watch as I sigh and swoon,
Baby, just forget about the Black Lagoon,
'Cause the only guy who's ever gonna sing my tune
Is the guy who's risen from the grave.
(This is such a twisted, perfect song for those weird fangirls out there like me who dig mad scientists, werewolves, vampires, etc.)
11: First We Take
Ah you loved me as a loser
But now you're worried that I just might win
You know the way to stop me
But you don't have the discipline
How many nights I prayed for this, to let my work begin
First we take
(This villain has a not-so-sympathetic girl, but she’ll come around …)
12: The World is Not Enough – Garbage
The world is not enough
But it is such a perfect place to start, my love
And if you’re strong enough
Together we can take the world apart, my love
People like us
Know how to survive
There’s no point in living
If you can’t feel the life
We know when to kiss
And we know when to kill
If we can’t have it all
Then nobody will
(Yay, a non-dysfunctional villain couple! Ain’t they cute, with their plans of galactic invasion?)

Is there any chance of getting them both in a .zip or .rar file?
There is a chance of sometime, in the future, me downloading compressing tools and figuring out how to make .zip files. But for now I haven't the time, skill, or bravery (my computer makes scary noises when I mess around with music.)
I'm very sorry. I really ought to have become tech-savvy BEFORE making huge fanmixes.

Date: 2009-10-07 11:40 pm (UTC)I don't think you need compressing tools to make a .zip file, btw. The way to do it (on my PC) is to
1. Right-click on your desktop and select 'New' then 'Compressed (zipped) Folder'. Name it whatever you want.
2. Go to your (in this case, music) folder and right click on a file you want to include in the .Zip
3. Click 'Send to...' then 'Compressed (zipped) Folder' and select the file you made in the first step, this should create a compressed copy in that file.
4. Repeat until all the files are copied over.
Hope that helps. : )
*wanders off to try and download the mix again*
