Title: Fly Away

Rating: PG-13 ... I suppose ...

Genre: Inner-reflection with minor vague smut.

Warnings: Haven't got spell-check right now, so this might be full of typos. Please inform me of them, so they can be fixed.

Disclaimer: Uh … obviously I don’t own Heroes, because if I did, I’d have Plaude on screen, aknowledged by everyone.

Summary: Niki ... dies. It's sad. (And I'm not too big on Niki, so this is odd for me!)

My Thoughts: Well, xmen_geek (can't do the cool linky thing!) was/is writting a story about Peter and Claude in FYG. Niki is there. I sugguested something like this story, and she said I'd be her hero if I wrote it. So I did. In a rush. In Casa de Pre-Wedding de Alabama. On a borrowed laptop without Word or spell-check. It should have been more pretty and tragic, and I'm sorry.

Also,

[profile] xmen_geek, this is dedicated to you! (My first dedication, yahoo!)

Niki goes through the steps, getting whistles and cheers from the crowd. She knows she's not the best dancer in town, but people still show up. Perhaps they like her subtle moves, her casual grace.
Niki's been living off the crowd's enthusiasm for years now. She'd thought Peter loved her - at least a little bit. Kisses, sex, sharing a room: things of love for most people, but for Niki and Peter they were lies. Pretty, shiny little lies to soothe the ache brought upon by loss.
Still, she'd thought he loved her ... at least a little bit. That his icy heart warmed slightly when she was around, that their desperate kisses pushed angst and gloom back for a few seconds. I thought you loved me, Peter. Niki thinks as loudly as she can, but she knows he doesn't hear her. No, you're thinking about him, aren't you? I wonder if you're trading thoughts, telepathic-sex? Niki closes her eyes and spins around the pole. Almost time now ... the grand finale.
She knows she should have done this ages ago, before things got so out of hand. But Peter and ... that man ... just put her over the edge. Over the edge ... heh ... Such times inspire black comedy.
She's had the table arangement placed just so for a while now, in case she had to do this ... perhaps to save herself if Sylar ever showed up ... but even after she'd fallen into the numb routine, she left it there. Just in case ... just in case ...
Her feet are light, almost like she's flying. Soon I'll fly for real. I wonder if after I can fly forever? She's never thought much about after: just leaving this place, this dried up husk of a person she's become. Niki? Jessica? She's neither and both, a melded entity with the worst qualities of the sisters, miserable and half-dead already.
There's nothing left now: DL, Micah: gone. Peter - a fake, feeble hope at best - loves another. I can't believe it, you know what I've gone through ... but I guess if you loved someone so much, you'd cheat on just about anyone to feel again.
That scene is playing over and over in her head: hearing panting and gasping from the hallway, squinting through a hole in the wall and seeing Peter with a man in her room, on her bed, in each other, flickering in and out of visibility.
Peter ...
She wonders who the other man is. Old boyfriend? There's been talk of an invisible man out there, but she never listened much. He must have known Peter somehow, otherwise, why the sudden sex?
Had then been at it for ages now? Had she just found out? Or was it a one-time deal?
No. Not the way they'd been ... that wasn't careless, offhand sex. It was love-making to the highest degree. Peter was meant to be with the invisible man. She was meant for no one on this earth.
She's nearing the finish once again, but this time it really is the end. No more routines after this, no more long nights and frenzied kisses, no more cold anger and shots at two in the morning.
Peter's watching her now. Does he know? Nah, he can't hear me yet ... Niki sighs, going through the last few steps automatically, though she could have done it already.
I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY WITH HIM! she screams with her thoughts, mustering any feelings she has left and racing to the end of the stage. Niki leaps off, plumeting down, head thrown back so the razor-sharp glass can slit her throat easily.
Yells ... confusion ... the dimly-lit club grows darker ...
DL ... Micah ...
Niki flies away.

I'm not too fond of Niki, but this had to be done.

Niki? Jessica? She's neither and both, a melded entity with the worst qualities of the sisters, miserable and half-dead already
loved this line......
Yeah, I like that line too ... added in rather late, which is scary ...

I don't usually care for Niki but you did a realistic, and sympathetic, picture of her here. Nice work.

Thanks! *grins like a maniac until the other residents of Casa de Pre-Wedding de Alabama inquire to my mental status*
I don't like Niki either, but this was fun to write.

That was great. Poor Niki, you made me feel bad for her. But the Plaude must find its way.

Yeah, the idea was: 'Poor Niki!' and 'Plaude 4 Eva!' Glad I got it across.
Thanks!

"Niki flies away."
This absolutely left me speechless. It was such a sad end, but also hopeful, and...just wow.

"Peter was meant to be with the invisible man. She was meant for no one on this earth." Same for this line. I think the best word I can find for this installment is 'bittersweet.' I can only imagine what Peter is going to do- what he's going to feel like- afterwards.

*applaudes*

Awww ... thanks! *beams*
I love those lines a lot too.
There is no sequel, but I think that Peter and Claude would be together for ever and ever, but it'll be tinged with bitterness, because of how Peter destroyed Niki completely.
The ending just came. Before that is was half-heartedly titled 'Dance With the Devil.' Why? I dunno, just happened ...

Damn. This is very good. That last line is...just damn.

Thanks? ...
Yes, thank you!
The last line is what made me change the title. While writing it, it was clumsily names 'Dance with the Devil' for some odd reason.

"Dance with the Devil" kinda works for Niki--at least when Jessica was around. But hey, I'm not the best with titles either.
