Title: Phone Call and Watch (Sequel to ‘Stop Me’)

Rating: Umm … PG-13-ish

Genre: Crack tries to intrude sometimes … comment and tell me what you think the genre is!

Warnings: The first part is a phone conversation, which might not be too good, as I don’t conduct many in real life. I’ve never written Noah Bennet before, so he may sound funny. But there’s some potential Gabriel/Mohinder at the end, so be patient and you’ll be rewarded! (As a result, it’s rather long …)

Disclaimer: Uh … obviously I don’t own Heroes, because if I did, I’d have Mylar making out on screen instead of in slash fics or my twisted mind …

Recap If You’re Lazy And Won’t Follow My Lovely Links: Everyone ran away after Peter and Nathan went boom because Sylar was exploding. Mohinder stayed, Sylar begged for him to stop him, Mohinder couldn’t, declarations of love were exchanged between the two, Sylar crawled into a sewer in a weak attempt to save Mohinder, The Haitian showed up and wiped Sylar’s memory, turning him into Gabriel. Mohinder took Gabriel to Canada at The Haitian’s request. Gabriel woke up and Mohinder told him that he’d recently been in a car accident and got amnesia, and that Mohinder was his friend. Gabriel recalled feelings of love with Mohinder and decided to trust him. I was perfectly content to leave it there, but you guys demanded a sequel to ‘happily ever after.’ *harrumph*

My Thoughts: Someone threatened to send Sylar to eat my brain if I didn’t write a sequel, and everyone praised ‘Stop Me,’ so I succumbed to peer pressure. Sorry it took so long! I’ve been a very busy person!

(November 10th, 9:24 M.)

C: Petrelli residence, Claire speaking.

(pause)

C: Hello?

MS: Claire, hi, it’s Mohinder Suresh.

C: Oh my god … we all thought you were dead or something!

MS: I’m not dead, I’m sorry for not calling for so long, it’s just …

C: (calling over shoulder) Dad! It’s Mohinder Suresh!

(the phone switches hands)

N: (disbelieving) Dr. Suresh?

MS: Yes, it’s me.

N: (pause) W-why did you wait so long to call? We came back after a while, but you and Sylar were gone, so we assumed he’d … or … we’ve all been terrified that Sylar was still out there, that he’d forced you to give him the List …

MS: The List is destroyed, Mr. Bennet. Sylar is dead.

(pause)

N: Are you sure?

MS: Positive.

N: How –?

MS: I …I’m not entirely comfortable discussing it, Mr. Bennet. It was …rather traumatic. I … I nearly died, I had to get away, I’m in Canada now …

N: Do you …need anything?

MS: No, not really. I was just wondering how …Molly and the rest of you were …

N: Oh! Molly’s here, now, we all are. Decided that there was safety in numbers.

MS: Who’s there?

N: Me, Claire, Molly, Niki Sanders, DL Hawkins, their son Micah, Matt’s still in the hospital, that guy with the sword, Hiro, is around …

M: Has Peter or … have either of them shown up?

(pause)

N: Peter is …um …Nathan is dead, we’re sure of that but …Peter is …it’s confusing, Suresh.

MS: Ah, never mind then. Should I come back?

N: Not unless you want to. If Sylar is really …dead …then Claire and I will be going back to Texas soon. The Sanders might be sticking around, but they’re not sure yet. Hiro comes and goes, and Matt will probably just want to go back to his wife, but Peter’s …um …staying here for now.

MS: Hmmm …

(pause)

N: Look, Suresh, if you want to talk about getting back into the Company, you should really talk to Peter’s mother, she practically started it …

MS: No! No! I don’t want anything to do with them anymore, not after …no thanks.

N: Sorry, I shouldn’t have …

MS: Can I talk to Molly?

N: Suresh, I didn’t mean …

MS: Can I talk to Molly, please?

N: (sighs) Ok, gimme a sec. (Over shoulder) Claire, could you go get Molly?

(pause, eventually the phone changes hands.)

MW: Dr. Suresh?

MS: Hi, Molly.

MW: (angry) I thought you were dead! They tried to keep me from hearing them, but they kept saying that the Boogeyman had killed you and taken a list of special people and you were DEAD. (crying noises)

MS: Molly, I’m so sorry, I …I don’t have an excuse. I should never have left you.

MW: (sniffles) It’s ok, I just …you shouldn’t have gone after the Boogeyman, nobody can stop him, not even Officer Parkman …

MS: The Boogeyman is dead, Molly, you don’t have to worry about him anymore, I promise.

MW: Really?

MS: I saw him …I don’t want to talk about it Molly, but I guarantee he’s gone for good.

MW: So …am I safe now? Officer Parkman is still in the hospital, and that scary man with the glasses is hanging around here too much, but if the Boogeyman’s really gone …

MS: You’re in the safest place possible, the scary man with the glasses can protect you, so can lots of other people like Officer Parkman.

MW: Could I stay with you? I could help you find more special people, since you don’t have that list thing!

MS: Umm …

MW: It makes sense, Mohinder! You need me to help you!

(pause)

MS: I’ll think about it, Molly, but are you really sure ...?

MW: Of course!

MS: Ok, could I talk to Mr. Bennet again?

MW: (whispering) He’s really scary!

MS: Not as scary as Thompson was!

MW: True. Ok, here he is!

(phone switches hands)

N: Yes?

MS: Is there …is there some way I could legally adopt Molly? It doesn’t matter if it would take a long time, I’ve got to work through some things for a while, but it’s what she really wants …

N: It’s not a problem. We have a friend …um, let’s just say she’s … connected …she could manage it so that no one will be suspicious, but it’ll take a while.

MS: That’s ok, I’ve got some stuff to sort through before another person comes into my life. Call me back when your … friend sorts it out?

N: Sure, what’s your number now?

~*~

Gabriel watched as Mohinder put the phone down, slightly bewildered. Much of what Mohinder had been talking about had stirred things in the back of his head, but only enough to let him know they were familiar, not what they meant. At least his thoughts of Mohinder had been linked to feelings …

He shook his head. Mohinder probably didn’t even know about that. They were just friends, or, at least, that’s what Mohinder thought. Gabriel might have been on the brink of letting his feelings out before the car crash … and the amnesia.

“Did I know those people?” he asked as Mohinder got up.

Something flickered behind the other man’s eyes. Gabriel could never tell what that something was, but it flickered a lot.

“Yes and no,” Mohinder shrugged, then glanced at his watch. “Damn, I’m going to be late for my job interview, I could have sworn I had time …”

“That watch’s not right.”

Gabriel said it without thinking. How did he know that? But … there it was: a slight imperfection in the ticking – wait a minute, why could he hear the watch ticking?

Mohinder stared at him. “How do you know?” he asked, the something flickering behind his eyes again.

Gabriel shrugged. “It’s wrong, I can … hear it, that’s weird …” he stared at the tiny clock face. “I think I can fix it!” he didn’t know where the excitement was coming from, but he was certain he knew what to do. “Could I try to …?” he looked up to meet Mohinder’s eyes, feeling slightly foolish. God, he was excited about a watch. How lame had he been before he forgot everything?

Mohinder bit his lip, then handed the watch over. “How much time do I really have before my interview?” he asked, watching Gabriel set the watch down on the table and begin rummaging through the cupboards.

“Twenty minutes or so … don’t worry,” he returned with a pair of tweezers and the tiny screwdriver they’d purchased to assemble the desk. “I don’t think this’ll take too long,”

Gabriel wasn’t quite sure why he knew how to go about opening, repairing, and putting back together a wristwatch. After all, the inner-workings were ridiculously small, and his hands were rather large, and his tools hadn’t exactly been designed for this, but somehow he did it.

“Fixed,” he handed it back to Mohinder, who had watched this in utter fascination: it had taken Gabriel eleven minutes.

“Wow,” Mohinder managed, staring at the watch.

“Was I … a watchmaker before the car crash?” Gabriel asked, praying that he hadn’t been. He’d never met a watchmaker – well, he didn’t remember meeting one – but for some reason the words ‘geeky’ and ‘timid’ and ‘sweater vests’ seemed to go along with it.

Mohinder hesitated. “You were,” he put the watch back on. “Thanks, I’ll be back in about an hour, hopefully with a job,” he gave Gabriel his sunshine-smile before heading out.

Gabriel stared at the door after him and sighed. He raised his eyebrows in response to this. So, now I’m sighing like a hopeless romantic …lovely … and I was – am – a watchmaker. Perfect, bet he has fantasies about me all the time …

Gabriel started. What if Mohinder did? There hadn’t been any evidence to suggest otherwise … quite the contrary: images of several items of clothing he’d seen while unpacking floated up through his mind. A bright pink shirt, a rainbow scarf … hmmm …

He shook his head and decided to flip through channels. Nothing good on, as usual. He ended up just playing some random sitcom to keep him company, and, though half of his mind protested, he set about daydreaming about Mohinder. No matter what else he tried to think about, even the strange ease with which he’d fixed the watch, he somehow ended up imagining how it would feel to run his fingers through the Indian’s curly black hair, let his hands slide down Mohinder’s face, catch his lips in a kiss …

What was the point of daydreaming? Maybe he really was a timid little watchmaker, awkward and stumbling, he’d probably never even done it with another guy.

The door opened, and Gabriel hurriedly switched off the TV. “How did it go?” he asked eagerly, bounding off of the couch.

Mohinder smiled. “Got the job!”

“Great!” Gabriel pushed his daydreams to the back of his mind.

Mohinder flashed his sunshine smile again. God, Gabriel loved it when he did that! “Get your coat, we’re going out to celebrate!”

Gabriel felt something flutter in his chest. “Ok,” he smiled to himself as he went to get his coat, hoping that maybe, just maybe, Mohinder wanted to be more than friends.

You shall do down in history as the person who forced me to continue this. Also as the first person to be added to my friends list who threatened me ...

LOL! Really now, did you honestly think you could start an AU story like this and expect to have it be a one shot?!

Glad to hear that my threats worked! ^_^ hehe!

There are two ways to get me to write more. One is to threaten me (see 'herverylowness' past posts) or say please. But you called it cute and said you loved it, and I like your icon, so I'll let it slide!

laaa!!!!! *sings* this is so exciting! i love the way gabriel almost remembers stuff, but it's only enough to make him so completely in love with mohinder, which i guess was there all along. bravo!!!! i demand eagerly await further updates!

Yay! I made someone sing! *dances*
Yes, Gabriel almost remembering stuff IS pretty fun. My theory is that the Haitian can take away your memories, but if you're a hero, you get these vague sorta recollections that Gabriel is experiencing here.
(I got a 'bravo' with FOUR exclamation points! *dances some more*)
Hopefully, between getting money, sleeping, and catching up on Lost (I'm halfway through season 1, if anyone tells me something I'll whip out my katana!) I'll have the next part soon. I've got parts - well, they're like parts 9 and 6 and 17 or something, because they're all months ahead of this, so maybe I'll be lazy and put a 'Several Months Later' thing at the beginning then launch into my Evil!Peter and hints of Plaude and Molly and ... I'm getting ahead of myself ... *dances away*

MOOOOOOOAR!! Hee. No, Gabriel, you weren't lame before the amnesia, but you were much harder to slash. Just go with it ;)

BTW, the link for the first part didn't work for me. The page tried to open with http://http//community... Might want to check it.

After some hair-pulling, I think I fixed the linky thing. You have to copy/paste now, but it's that or have the story bright blue, italisized, and underlined ... don't ask.

Demanding little children! That's all you slash-readers are, demanding little children! *grumbles yet glows with pride*

Eh, I figured out the link eventually. At first I figured it was my computer since I'm having image issues on other comms. Glad you were able to fix it somewhat :)

We slash readers are only so demanding because you slash writers are so accommodating. Please don't change that!

Yeah, that line was fun ... seriously, there should be a snipit in an episode where Mohinder gets hit on by some random gay guy because of his hilarious outfits ... *plots to contact Tim Kring*

That's cool!
