Lol, his wife slapped his face in that scene. Oh my.
"And Rob was like 'Why did you make them so gay?!' Well, they're sleeping together, what do you expect?!"
Ahahahahahaa! So, Rob doesn't ship Snob/Luke but Doug does
"The original music here was for lack of a term, a little gayer. *laughs* Which, again, wasn't entirely our intention …"
Yeah, suuuuuuuuuure, Doug &hellip
Wow, the original Mechakara-attacks-the-Chick scene was worse, and made Doug and Rob even more uncomfortable. Yeesh. There were SOUNDS. Jesus. I'm so glad those weren't left in.
I'm amused by the fact that apparently most of them were never wearing shoes in the scenes. Hee hee hee.
Lol, Doug not realizing how shoving Turl onto the couch was a bit suggestive before Noah shouted "rape!" I'm ... I'm not gonna touch that one, ok?
Awwww, Doug telling us to watch people in the background. The faces in the background are really hilarious, it's one of the many fun parts of rewatching the anniversaries.
Lol, Dark Helmet.
Apparently James and Doug have the same kind of wedding ring? And seeing James's wedding ring was meant to clue us into the fact that it was James? I ... don't know what to do with this information ...
Doug says "it's just wonderful" when Benzaie does his dance. Heeeeeeeeeee.
I agree with Doug about the funny incompetence of trying to get their ships working again.
"Someone always has the advantage, and it's always about how much the other side will gloat."
*sporfles*
Awwwwwww, Doug's wife and Doug went out to dinner with Doug's ex girlfriend and her husband and had a great time
And that's where I'm stopping tonight. I have two classes back to back tomorrow. I need my rest.

Date: 2013-01-17 04:09 pm (UTC)But nooo, it didn't end there. Lewis decided to be the white-knight for the rest of the shoot (Lindsay, bless her heart, had never really given much of a shit, and tore into tumblr people who tried to shame her for being a damsel while wanting the boys tied up) and kept on complaining to Rob "Rooob, Doug wrote a rape scene!", even after it was fixed, and so Rob had to deal with both that and a brother who was getting steadily more upset. (To be fair to Lewis, he also backtracked on tumblr and probably didn't know that Doug's guilt has a tendency to kill him, but still.)
On another note, I'm kinda proud of Doug for mentioning the Chick-drilling-Todd scene. Interesting how she's had a history of sexual harassment towards him but nobody took the double meaning of that ever.

Eh, I can understand that, though. Getting handed a scene like that at first, with the writer not realizing the implications, would be wicked uncomfortable and I can understand with a shooting schedule of six days, long film shoots, little sleep, and all kinds of stuff going on, how Lewis would have pushed a bit on that and not realized how Doug was already beating himself up. Film sets are stressful crazy environments and even with friends and longtime work colleagues, you can't know what's going on in people's heads.

We all kinda exhausted our "auuuugh, creepy robotic rape scene!" discussions on the Chick and Mechakara scene, so by the time it was Todd's turn we didn't have anything left? Or because nobody overheard Todd and the Chick and Mechakara, or saw them come into the room and giggled "lol, they just had sex" ... maybe that was it? *shrugs*

I don't really buy that? With Lindsay saying she had to make the Chick jump off the slippery slope with crazy for Todd because, even with bondage and wanting to sex his corpse, guys thought she was adorable while Todd>Lupa was creepy, I'm gonna go with Double Standard. And honestly, removing slash goggles, when has Mechakara ever expressed interest in a meatbag?

Date: 2013-01-17 08:55 pm (UTC)That sounds about right. I can't imagine he was being malicious about it, just uncomfortable with the original scene and wanting to make sure Doug understood that was a creepy creepy scene.

It wasn't so much his character as the way it was shot. The two scenes were handled differently and given different amounts of time.
The first scene, Lindsay gets cornered by Mechakara and attacked and turned into an android. We hear creepy sounds and screams, and in the original scene lots of creepy sounds. Then we see FilmBrain going to knock on the door and assumes it's sex. Then it's hammered home even more, with other characters seeing his 0.0 face and assuming "lol, Chick and Linkara are hooking up!"
In the second scene, we just see Mechakara and Android!Lindsay walking towards Todd menacingly. There's no overheard sounds, and nobody assumes "lol, sex!" later because they've already done those jokes.
Story-wise, this makes sense, we don't need two prolonged scenes of Mechakara attacks when that's not the real point of the movie, just one, and hey, jokes at FilmBrain's expense are funny and they didn't have time for more the second time. It would have dragged the story.
Plus, didn't tgwtg people get on twitter and comment on the first scene and respond to fans? We had more time to talk about that stuff with the first scene, so the second one was a lot easier to accept and not as shocking, and there were other big conflicts to be concerned about later in the series.
I can see why some people reacted more strongly to the first scene and not so much to the second one. Both have scary implications but the first one was pushed a lot more. I'm not saying it's right or wrong or whatever, I just can see why there was more outcry about the first scene.

Date: 2013-01-17 09:11 pm (UTC)I was on twitter that night. The only thing I saw was Lindsay actually praising herself for acting pretty good, and Lewis saying the scene was nowhere near as bad as he thought. The only time fans got news is when they both responded to the secret hating Doug on tumblr.
Plus there were loads of scary, gory scenes. This moment was just one of them.
Ugh, why am I talking about this? "Metaphor for rape!" shit gives me flashbacks and panic. :(
