I love Elle. She's a righteous bitch, but she revels in it, so that makes her awesome. She just ... doesn't care about what other people think of her, she just does what she wants to. In the first movie she's being controlled by Bill, but in the second movie she kills his brother and, minutes later, lies through her teeth to Bill about the whole thing.
Her relationship to Beatrix is something that warrants study. She clearly respects Beatrix, using that as her reason for murdering Budd even. Yet she's also jealous of Beatrix, for Beatrix's relationship with Bill and maybe even her relationship with Pai Mei, the man who plucked out her eye. I don't know if Elle actually killed Pai Mei or just said that to piss Beatrix off, but either way it's in keeping with her character. The manner in which Beatrix deals with Elle is notable too, she leaves her alive (albeit blind and trapped in a trashed trailer with a dead man and a deadly venomous snake in the middle of nowhere.) Is this merciful, or sadistic to the nth degree? The mark of letting a respected enemy and former friend get away with their life, or the punishment for the woman who tried to murder you twice and killed your master?

Can I just say that I LOVE the fights in the Kill Bill movies? Because I do. Fight scenes are something I go crazy for, especially since I've done fight coreography for plays and know about some of the tricks. Well-blocked violence is delightful to watch. I could yammer on and on about this (I squeed about a certain three-minute fight-scene in a kitchen in Season 1 of Leverage for DAYS) I have to point out that Kill Bill's fights are some of the best ever. And I love love love love LOVE how the fights between women aren't those silly hair-pulling slap-fests designed to titilate or give the girls something to do that so often occur in movies and tv, but rather brutal, knock-down drag-out affairs that are freaking AWESOME to behold.
Beatrix being barefoot in her fight with Elle is so obviously Author Appeal at work, but I don't mind. I noticed, and then I forgot about it and watched the kickass fight scene.

I love the contrast between Elle and Beatrix in their fight scene, Elle in her nice suit and shoes, pretty clean after getting a swirly, and Beatrix barefoot, caked in dirt and mud, wearing jeans.

This seems as good a time as any to mention that Uma Thurman's nose, at least from the side, bothers me for some reason. I don't know if she had work done, or didn't have work done, or what, but it just bothers me aesthetically. I didn't know that noses could bother me, but I guess they can.

The scene with Beatrix walking in on B.B. and Bill is heartbreaking and adorable. "Impervious to bullets mommy!" stop being so gosh-darned adorable, B.B.!
"You're dead, mommy, so die." That could mean so many things. I could spend so much time trying to interpret that, and Bill, and Beatrix, and wow ...
"Oh mommy, don't die, I was just playing!" I don't think it's a coincidence that she fell down into roughly the same position as when Bill shot her four years ago.

Bill: You know, sweetie, mommy's kind of mad at daddy.
B.B.: Why daddy, were you being a baaaaad daddy?
Bill: I'm afraid I was, I was a reaaaal bad daddy.
Interesting. Stop saying things like 'bad daddy' David Carradine, you're making me think Thoughts!

Bill: What happened to Emilio the other day?
B.B.: I killed him.
Beatrix: *obviously thinks, for a minute, that B.B. killed Emilio, the innocent Latino hotel employee*
Bill: Emilio was her goldfish.
Me: *sporfles*

I love how during the whole 'she killed her fish the other day' discussion Bill is brandishing this GIGANTIC knife around and Beatrix isn't saying a gorram thing.
I also noticed during this sequence that Bill is wearing a wedding ring. Pardon me, my heart just shattered, I need to go duct-tape it back together ...

Interesting how Beatrix looks her most stereotypically 'feminine' during her confrontation with Bill, soft pastel blue, long skirt, sandals. I'm not sure if there's symbolism, shout-out, or what going on with her outfit, or if I'm looking for stuff that simply isn't there. Also, Bill is barefoot in this scene instead of Beatrix. Hmmmmmmm ...

Wow, when Bill snaps, he SNAPS. And oh, look, he shot her and fruit exploded over her chest, wonder what that's meant to symbolize?

"What the fuck did you just shoot me with?!"
Ok, that never stops being hilarious to me. It laughed the first time I saw this movie, and I laugh now. Also, that's what she said.

Another thing I just noticed: there's a seahorse on the wall next to Bill during the confrontation scene, right beside the bar. Aha! I see what you did there, Quentin Tarantino!

I just love the scene between Preggers!Beatrix and the Assassin with the Shotgun. It's made of pure awesomesauce.

I think it's a testament to how great this movie is (and particularly how fantastic these actors are) that I don't doubt for a second the relationship between Bill and Beatrix. Sure, he's old enough to be mistaken for her father, but their intimacy is readily apparent.
(I hate how relationships with huge age gaps are demonized in tv shows these days. Not every young-pretty-woman-older-man relationship has to be horrible and abusive! Those were the norm back in the day! Araraghghggghg!!!)

I get how some people would feel cheated by the 'fight' between Beatrix and Bill, but I like it. Neither of them even get up out of their chairs, really, but her catching his sword in her sheath is some nice symbolism, and the blood dripping from his mouth is very sexy artistic nice, and their final conversation with her crying and him bleeding and being calm and stuff is ... yeah. You don't see enough of that in movies, a villain calmly accepting their death while the hero watches and feels awful but at the same time knows that this has to happen.

God help me, I think I have a Thing for Gogo. What can I say, I like my fictional-characters-that-I-have-inexplicable-crushes-on psychotic and adorable.

Doesn't that soundtrack kick ass? It kicks so much ass!
