Writer's Block: Church and State

I'd like to say that it ought to be left to the states. Seperation of Chruch and State is, after all, what this country was founded on.
However, it's ridiculous for two people to be married in Mass. or, until recently, California, then cross a state border and suddenly not have marriage rights. Certain things should be left up to states, but not marriage. American marriage should be consistant in EVERY state, not just a few. So should civil unions, but this being 'the land of the free' where 'all men are created equal' I think it's not too much to ask for gays and lesbians to have the same gorram rights as straights. The way things are now strikes me as a bit too 'All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others' if you know what I mean.
