Actually, this summer has been FANTASTIC for movies. In the past I haven'tgone to the movies much, except for HP and PotC ... but this summer I've been seeing quite a few.
So, here's a quick 'What aunt_zelda Thinks' guide to some summer movies that I've seen recently. (No horror, and no 'stupid humor' movies, I'm afraid, go somewhere else for that.)
Kung-Fu Panda: was a pleasant surprise, seeing as most 'kid's movies' aren't all that great. The opening sequence ALONE is worth seeing it. It's funny, spoofs kung-fu movies in a non-offensive way, and has some great action sequences. Enjoyable for all ages, bring your children and grandparents!
Hancock: surprised me. Will Smith is serious, still getting laughs, but in a wincing 'oh GOD, poor man!' kind of way, not his usual deal at all. The camera stays REALLY close to characters, there's a scene of gross-humor that's a bit ... much, but HE FLIES! HE SMASHES THINGS! HE TOSSES A CHILD INTO THE SKY! The plot-twist is kinda ... weird, and the climax doesn't feel fully-formed to me, but the ending is nice. Good for teens and up, but not for your average grandma.
Wall-E: is the cutest, most squee-inducing, ADORABLE thing you will probably ever see in your ENTIRE life ... and it's all about a pair of robots. The end veers a little off-course, becoming socially-critical and, frankly, scary, but the robot-romance is WORTH IT. You WILL squeal 'auuuuuuwwwwwww!' It are fact. Bring your whole family.
The Dark Knight: should have been called 'Rise of the Joker.' For srs. Heath Ledger SERIOUSLY messed himself up for this part, and it SHOWS. If the man does not get an Oscar, I am confident that hell will freeze over.
Ok ok, Christain Bale's Batman is still as fantastic as ever (though his Batman-voice begins to grate after a while) and Aaron Eckhart is DAMN SCARY, though the CGI on his face is a masterpiece. A nasuea-inducing materpiece, but a masterpiece all the same. Also, the Joker says something delectibly slashy to Batman. Go see this movie. Right now. GO! (But don't bring the children, people with heart-trouble, or pregnant women.)

Mama Mia!: was a fun, happy, up-beat movie. As I've said above: The New Yorker was too mean about it. Meryl Streep has a blast. Pierce Brosnan should not be allowed to sing. Very much a movie for women and gay men.
