I've found the geeks at work! *SQUEE* It's awesome! One of them is married to the other, and he was off duty so he was wearing a Trigun shirt and that's what started the conversation of PURE AWESOME. Then another guy came over and asked this question:[Poll #1585845]
Thoughts, people? I chose 'Nature' at first but now I'm not so sure ... it's a tough question!

Another good thing about work is that I can watch the World Cup during breaks. I haven't been able to watch the World Cup at all yet, so this is FANTASTIC. Soccer is NEVER on in the US, so the World Cup is cause for squee from me, because soccer is one of the few sports I enjoy watching on TV.

I was actually just talking to you to a friend of mind who also loves TGWTG. Then I checked my email and saw that you friended me! :3 Coincidence?

Well you ARE superherogrlcat, how could I not friend you? (P.S. People from your old fandom hate you? Why?! *brandishes katana* Shall I go defend your honor, milady?)

Heh, yeah, I posted some thoughts on the new Avatar The Last Airbender movie on avatar_fans, and how I didn't personally think that the casting was all that bad (there's a big controversy about it).

Then everybody there went apeshit over it (even though the whole thing wasn't even meant to be taken all that seriously) and I got accused in the comments of being racist, and my friend ellabel and I tried to laugh it off in the comments, and we got warned by the mod not to make personal attacks.

Urgh, anyway, the whole thing has turned me completely off of the Avatar fandom, possibly for good. *phew* Sorry about the rant. Needed to get it off my chest.

Ooooooo, yes, I've heard about that. There's been like 50 million fandomsecrets about it.

*huggles you* That's just plain awful. It's one of those things that you can't really argue online. Trolls suck, but people who you got along with previously being mean suck even worse.

I got accused in the comments of being racist, and my friend ellabel and I tried to laugh it off in the comments, and we got warned by the mod not to make personal attacks.
That doesn't sound right!

(No need to apologize, you're entitled to a rant.)
I watched the whole show last summer, loved it, read a teensy bit of fanfic and faved some funny fanart on dA, but I never got into the fandom. With all the 'zomg RACISM' and movie-making, I'm kinda glad I didn't.
While it does seem suspicious to me that Zuko is the only main Asian character and the main trio are all Caucasian, I don't think that needs to be a ginormous big major deal. It needs to be recognized and discussed, but not to the degree that I hear it's been going on. It's a fantasy world heavily influenced by Asian cultures, but it's still a fantasy world. The movie should be a cool, enjoyable film based on a fantastic cartoon.
Now, if very talented Asian actors were turned down in favor of horrible Caucasian actors, THEN I'd be pissed and protesting and pitching a fit. But if the kids are actually good, then does it really matter what race they are? (Well, yeah, to a degree it does, but that still doesn't account for such large masses of people going 'apeshit' and so I'm just sort of confuzzled by the whole situation.) I'm more peeved about the Prince of Persia casting, and I've never even played the game or seen the movie!

XD Yeah, that's what I kept trying to point out: it's a FANTASY. But meh, whatever. I refuse to delete my post. They need to realize that there can be more than one viewpoint without someone being ZOMGRACIST.

Mostly I just want to see the movie for Aasif Mandvi as Zhao.

The Prince of Persia casting did seem a little odd. And the lack of reaction to it, which takes place in an actual part of the world with an actual culture, while the reaction to Avatar (whose locations and cultures are fictional) still puzzles me. Ah well. Sometimes life just doesn't make sense.

I am still cheesed off at the mod, though. Someone told me and ellabel (actual quote) "I'll let you get back to you and your little friend licking eachother's clits in your little self-righteous privileged masturbation party down there".

THEY weren't warned about personal attacks, just me. Methinks the mod is also perhaps on the other side of the argument...?

Good for you! *huggles you* I hope the nasty-wasties don't get too nasty.

Mmmmmm ... full-motion Zhao ... *eagerly waits for the DVDs*

Yeah, that rubbed me the wrong way and I'm not even a gamer. Maybe it's because everyone assumed it'd suck because it was a video-game movie? Or because most of its fanbase doesn't consist of teenagers who just discovered the internet? (Ouch, that was harsh ... I'd better go to bed before I say something I'll regret later.)

THEY weren't warned about personal attacks, just me. Methinks the mod is also perhaps on the other side of the argument...?
*reads the quote* Oh my GOD ... there is NO excuse for saying that kind of thing to someone, especially over the internet. What jerks. And the mods are even worse for not clamping down on that kind of stuff! With great power comes great responsibility, like telling people to stop attacking, even if you agree with their ideas!

Dragons are indeed tempting, but army of zombies for literally gut-wrenching. Also, Black Lantern Spoony for army general.

Dragons all the way. Whenever there is a question and dragons is an option, that will most likely be the answer I choose. <3 dragons so much

I love love love LOVE dragons (though especially the Metallic ones, for obvious, incredibly geeky reasons) but they'd only be good for the first wave of 'I wanna take over the world: KABOOM ROAR EXPLODY DEATH FROM ABOVE RAWR!' attacks. Unless they were smaller and more manuverable. I mean, how big are we talkin' here?

Definitely voting dragons. Partially because that seems like the most epic choice, partially because I feel like that's the least likely to backfire. Doomsday devices can malfunction or self-destruct or fall into the wrong hands; an army of zombies could easily get away from you; ditto nature. Double ditto nature. Dragons, on the other hand-- if you can control dragons in the first place, I think you can keep control of them as long as you're appropriately Genre Savvy. Yes.

(also, it's cool that you found the other geeks at work! ^_^)

That's very sound reasoning. I was gonna go with Nature, but people are pretty good at killing it so that might not work. Doomsday devices are right out the window, Evil Overlord List says too much about them for them to be worth the risk, and zombies ... well, if you like zombies, fine, but if you wanna rule the world that's not a good plan.

(Yeah, they're all so awesome! I hope I work late more often so I can hang out with them more!)

I will take over the world... with TROGDOOOOOOOOOR! Dragons FTW! A doomsday device can be disabled, nature is unpredictable and zombies... uh- It's a frickin' DRAGON! It breaths fire and flies and ROOOOAAAAAAARS!

Doomsday device tempting but could go so round with people being heros and such. Dragon again exrtremely tempting but very temprumental creatures, natrue = very nice but I'm going with Army of Zombies.
Black Lantern to be precisie. Mainly due to their extreeme regeneration- you can shoot them in the head but all that'll happen is the head will grow back >_>

I guess I would pick nature if I could control it properly since given that, it would be the most efficient method of obtaining world power. I'd pick zombies, except that I just want to take over the world, not kill everybody. Doomsday device is subject to sabotage and espionage, and as for dragons, about the same thing as the zombies. Plus, it'll probably cost me more to replace the dragons if I lose them.

From: [identity profile] aunt-zelda.livejournal.com
That was my thinking originally, and after hearing everyone's opinions, I think I'm gonna stick with Nature. It's a more feel-good mode of global domination.

Date: 2010-07-01 03:15 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kadaverous.livejournal.com
Exactly. Nature comes off as more Well Intentioned Extremist than Big Bad like the others do. Well, to me at least.

Plus, in some areas, we could stand to have Nature takeover ... or at least take back its rightful territory ... *daydreams*
