Notes: This is a fanmix for a fantastical dark!fic series about the personalities of thatguywiththeglasses.com in the far-flung sci-fi future, by freya_sacken. The table of contents can be found HERE.

This is a mostly general mix about the series, with several characters getting their own song. Some hints of slash and shipping, and some mild spoilers. I highly recommend reading the series because it is AWESOME and depressing and incredibly well written. Fantastic fight scenes.

(freya_sacksen has said that this is the theme song of the fic itself. It even plays in the background of Chapter 4. A good place to start, methinks.)

(A huge part of the fic is that the TGWTG.com personalities have split into several warring factions. It’s really quite tragic, friend vs. friend and all, especially since everyone’s been twisted by experiments.)

03: Invincible – OK Go

And now my money says they won't know about the

Thousand Fahrenheit hot metal lights behind your eyes

Invincible!

(Everyone has whacky powers. Some are cyborgs, some are supercomputers on legs, some have Wolverine blades coming out of their knees, some are space vampires, some have skeletons made entirely of water, etc.)

04: Living in Exile – Sleater-Kinny

The castle kingdom all were lost.
Now I have nothing left.
Nowhere to go.
And my heart that's full of doubt
Is all I've left to show.

(Taken with a LARGE grain of salt, this could be the Nostalgia Chick’s song.)

(Almost all of the characters are depressed/angry/apathetic that they are less than human, ‘more machine than man’ more monster than person, etc. Did I mention that this is a dark!fic?)

(Several people in the series have lost all hope. They’ve … given up. They may not have admitted that to each other, but they have.)

And ran among the debris as the bullets flew.
Helicopters circled overhead to get a better view
We found a doorway, fell in and I held you.

09: Spy vs. Spy – Poets and Pornstars

(I’m not really sure if this is a song for the crew of the TANDEM, or the Battalion Faction, or just overall ALL Factions. Really depends on who you’re picturing when you listen to it.)

(A Linkara/Marzgurl song. Friendship or … more. Whatever makes you happy.)

11: Want – Recoil

(Spoony’s song. He’s our protagonist for most of the series, and I think that the best way to describe the character would be an even angstier Malcolm Reynolds. *huggles them both* Poor Captains, my Captains …)

13: She’s Losing It – Belle and Sebastian

Chelsea was the one who's been abused
It changed her philosophy in '82
She says, "Inch for inch and pound for pound"

(Z’s song. We don’t get much of her in the series, but the few scenes we do get is perhaps the harshest transformation of the whole cast. And when we find out what Linkara did to her … *shudders*)

14: The Skins – Scissor Sisters

Those are not your lips
Have you been kissed by a computer?
Are you able to move your hips?

There's a war without skin

(Several characters wear holograms at the beginning of the story. Plus, this song has a futuristic-feel to it.)

15: Fooling Yourself (Angry Young Man) – Styx

How can there be such a sinister plan
That could hide such a lamb, such a caring young man

You're kidding yourself if you don't believe it

(Suede’s song. He’s actually quite nice, he just … wants to take out all the other Factions and then start all over again.)

16: Kiss with a Fist – Florence and The Machine

(A Suede/Benzaie song. Because they’re so slashy that even characters within the fic itself lampshade the FoeYay between the Space Vampire and the … Space Frenchman.)

I am the lady from Mars

And I can unscrew the stars

18: Chinese Burn – Curve

Spoilt and ugly as she willingly slaughters

(I chose this song for the music, not so much the lyrics, though you can imagine the Nostalgia Chick or Goggles or Marzgurl or Z kicking ass. There’s a LOT of fighting in the series. This song puts me in mind of cyborgs fighting each other to the death. ~~Or vampire slayers dancing.~~)

19: Frankenstein – Aimee Mann

'Cause the most perfect strangers that you can talk to
Are the ones who pretend that you're not really you

I won't find it fantastic or think it absurd
When the gun in the first act goes off in the third

We will have to admit the futility of

And you'll notice it bears a resemblance to

(A really mellow song for Doctor Insano … and perhaps Ask that Guy as well. Don’t even attempt to think about the ramifications of such a pairing, please.)

20: Weapon of Choice – Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Everyone’s got their own spent factions

I've been digging in the wrong directions

(This is either Paw’s song or Kyle’s. Both have kickass weapons of choice in the series.)

21: Dance of Death – Andrew Bird

(A creepy ‘nightmare about the experiments’ song.)

22: Downfall – Matchbox 20

(There are a lot of great partnerships in this series, even if it is warring group against warring group, and also some dysfunctional nakamas that we get inside windows to. This is a great song for the Great Banding Together bit that occurs roughly halfway through the fic.)

23: Love To Blame – Apoptygma Berzerk

We've gone right
We've gone straight
And ended up far-out

And burned down all the bridges we came across
When will you be whole again?

(Everyone in the series has lived far too long. They’ve done a lot, and quite a bit of it they’re not proud of. This song is not just here because I find it damn catchy. Nope, nopity-nope-nope!)

24: Last of the Wilds – Nightwish

[Instrumental]

(I couldn’t exactly call this a Final Battle song, and while it is a fighting song it’s also got the theme of an epic journey, and rebirth after death. You could view this as a recap for the whole series, as well as the stuff that happened before, like Santa Muerte, and even the Brawl. Also, this is a fun song to headbang to. *blushes* What, a fluffy little fangirl like me can’t headbang once and a while? *rocks out to hardcore instrumental fairy music* Heh heh heh …)

25: Bullets – Tunng

We're catching bullets in our teeth

And though it's easy when you know how it's done

They split the secret up six ways

Before they gave it to us just before dawn

And now we don't remember

(For me, this song is really just plain perfect for the series. I’d quote the whole song if it wouldn’t take up so much space. A good place to end, methinks, especially considering the ambiguous status of the ending of the series itself.)
