Anniversary! (Yahoo! Almost One Year!)
May. 25th, 2008 01:25 pmSeeing as tomorrow is my 1-year LJ Anniversary, I'm going to change my layout for the first time SINCE I signed up. Good lord, how I've changed in a year ... I'm a far-cry from the blushing naive Heroes-fan reading Mylar smut on her breaks! (Now I'm reading Doctor/Master on my breaks, and not blushing nearly so much. Hee hee ...)
Well, thank you to everyone who helped me though that troubling time of vague-Mary-Sues and guided me through lj-cuts and all that jazz. Thanks to all the people who said my work was wonderful (it took a while to get decent, it was nice of you to lie.)
So, anyhoodle, like this time last year, I'm inexplicably running that literary magazine AGAIN. This will mean tears, forsaken lunch-breaks, and afternoons spent resisting the urge to kick the copier. I will have precious little time to finish my class projects and tidy up for the end of the year, much less read, write, and post slash. I apologize in advance for this, I have NOT forgotten you lot, I just won't have much time to 'talk.'
So that's why I'm changing the layout today, and posting fics today and tomorrow, because I want to get some stuff out there to keep you guys occupied until I 'return.'
(Oh yeah, Old Who? FANTASTIC stuff!)

Date: 2008-05-25 06:07 pm (UTC)And I'm the editor of the literary magazine at my high school as well. It's a fucking, fucking nightmare. We (or rather, I) finally got it out of the door last Thursday. It was about a week late. Was it worth it? We'll see.

Date: 2008-05-25 07:56 pm (UTC)Old Who is very fun. It drags from time to time, but that's ok. Besides, I like to laugh at bad special effects, it's good for the soul.
*working on The Sea Devils today* I love it when the Doctor and the Master swordfight. 'Tis a symbol of their oh-so-canon love ...

Oh GOD ... last year my 'team' kept bickering and fighting and one day I just burst into tears (it was REALLY hot and humid last June) and things finally worked out. Damn that copier, though ... *shudders* 'Fucking, fucking nightmare' is something I wholeheartedly agree with. And that was BEFORE they got handed out and people found my slashy short story and started reading it aloud all over the place. I was beet-red for weeks.

Woo hoo, mine is fast approaching as well. Feels like only yesterday since I tumbled headfirst down the Mylar rabbit hole...

Hee hee, yeah, wasn't I giving you words of encouragement or some such nonsense? I mean, you're a better Mylar author than I ever was and ever will be!

Yay slash! I have two subtley lesbian pieces in mine this year. (And two other lesbian-central short stories from the other editor. Weird, both editors of the magazine were lesbians this year. But not dating (unfortunately)).

Date: 2008-05-26 04:42 pm (UTC)Well, I did TRY that, but these two wouldn't stop FIGHTING ... argh, I was ready to whallop them both over the head and throw them into ... something. Some kind of trap. I'm too NICE in real life, btw, REALLY ... unless I'm plotting to kill someone in a Shakespeare play, which is more often than not ...

Date: 2008-05-27 12:46 am (UTC)Oh man, I never blush during fics unless the writing is so bad that I feel embarrassed for the reader. This, fortunately, hasn't happened as often as it used to. I'm much, much better at spotting bad fic.
Awww, I have yet to watch any Old Who yet, but it's on my list for the summer! Hopefully the computer is feeling up to this. *pets computer*

I'm good at spotting badfic too, but when I started reading slash I had no idea what I was getting into, I never wrote dirty stuff and pretended I didn't know all those gross words and ... yeah, I seldom blush these days ...

Some of it's incredibly cheesy, or rather dull, but some of it's fantastic, particularly the episodes with the Master because, really, he and the Doctor have had chemistry FROM THE START. I KID YOU NOT! IT'S RIDICULOUS!
This summer I plan on dividing my time between Old Who, Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie, and the play.

Date: 2008-06-01 05:50 pm (UTC)It didn't take much for me to get into the dirty stuff. And just look at me now. I used to shy away from anything kinky, and now I'm all, "BONDAGE? HOOK ME UP!"
Not that I'm some crazy BSDM person, but for most of my pairings, a little bit of kinkyness fits so well.
Oh, I'm prepared for the cheese factor of the old Doctor Who. I've watched SGA and Torchwood. I think I'm prepared.
I KNOW. I pretty much really want to watch the old Who because of the Doctor and the Master. I admit it.

Date: 2008-06-02 10:02 pm (UTC)Wow ... I think I'm the reason aimisan got her LJ ... she just wanted to be able to comment on my slash postings ... I also got her hooked on slash, and now she's such a Draco/Harry fangirl it scares me. Draco/Harry is ... 'meh' to me. I'm a Remus/Sirius girl.

*blushes* I KNOW! Last year I was all 'Bondage? Ewwww ...' now I seek it out when I'm feeling low ...

Seeing as the pairings I'm into tend to have a lot of betrayal, angst, and polar-opposites-attracting, BDSM is kind of a must-have ... but I'm so AWFUL at really kinky or really smutty stuff that I skitter along the edges ...

I &hearts Torchwood. It is God's Gift to slashers. I like SGA, but I don't watch it religeously, just in passing when I have access to the sci-fi channel ... I tried to watch SG:1, but it was so horrifically cheesy that my relations (who were regrettably about) laughed so hard that they shamed me into stopping. It was AWFUL.

That'll tell you which episodes the Master's in, what goes down, and if there's swordfighting. (I KNOW! SWORDS! MY OTP! *faints*) You really don't want to watch every single DW episode just to get the slash ... start with those, then explore some more. Ignore the bad special effects, watch the pretteh blond Doctor and the skeevy bearded Master have ridiculously slashy vibes.

Date: 2008-06-03 07:56 pm (UTC)I only have room for Remus/Sirius in my Harry Potter fandom heart.
I could never, ever write any BSDM fic, even if it fits the pairing perfectly. I can only read it and appreciate its greatness.
I've never seen SG-1, but I can't imagine that it's any worse than SGA. Maybe it is. It just doesn't seem humanly possible.
Oooooh, sword fighting? Mmmm. What a useful post!

Date: 2008-06-03 09:08 pm (UTC)I don't read much HP fanfic ... later I will ...
The thing about Draco/Harry is that, well, gotta love the rival-slash business. That's how I got into slash online, with Mohinder and Sylar. And I certainly choose Draco/Harry over Harry/Ginny because ... I dunno, Ginny is just ... 'blah,' ya know? Harry needs some degree of challenge/danger/excitement in a relationship, having spent all his teenage life fighting for his life, and I don't think he'd get that with Ginny. I think that, later in his marriage, it's very likely he'd have an affair.
You see, I think too much about this ...
REMUS/SIRIUS FTW! (It's canon, it's gotta be ... I mean, JOINT CHRISTMAS PRESENT!)
I'm scared to attempt BSDM ... people might laugh.
SGA is ok ... gotta love cheesy sci-fi, after all ... but SG-1, from what I've seen, is more military-based. SGA is more 'ooooo, cool aliens, let's help!' and 'yeek! Those-pale-w-monsters-I-can't-remember-the-name-of!'
Yes, SWORDFIGHTING! *faints*
Yes, it's a luverly post ... she writes amazing Doctor/Master fics, too, if you've got the chance to poke about.
(That icon ... Mr. Muggles is the evilest thing in that picture! Run, Mr. Sylar, RUN!)
