I COMPLETELY got the OT3 sense from how FitzSimmons acted after they found out about Skye's hacker bf. The conversation actually makes LESS sense in a gen scenario. (Plus it's totally my headcanon that Fitz and Simmons always just have threesomes with whoever they want to sleep with - like the two of them are a package deal).
And yeah, the Coulson/Skye daddy kink thing was going pretty strong too.(Plus, Coulson gave the naughty hackers bondage bracelets and put them on computer time outs)
But yeah, I think these conversations are the show's SAD attempt to introduce complexity or ambiguity to the politics of SHIELD, like they're showing both sides, and it just sucks, for exactly the reasons you said. IMHO the show is really interesting in its characters and really sucky when it tries to be DEEP and SMART ABOUT SOCIAL ISSUES. I like shows that are deep and smart about social issues, but that's not this show.

Yeah, that conversation confused me because I was like "you're not sleeping with her in canon, why are you suddenly upset that she didn't tell ya'll she had a boyfriend? If you're not shagging, that's none of your business. You've only known her for like three weeks. You're pretty new 'friends,' so thinking you should know everything about her past at this point is pretty ridiculous, so ... what is going on here?" Like am I supposed to ship the three of them now? Did they have some flings between episodes? Is that why they're so sad? Can I please ship that OT3 hard?
(Plus it's totally my headcanon that Fitz and Simmons always just have threesomes with whoever they want to sleep with - like the two of them are a package deal). Yup. They are so a package deal.
And yeah, the Coulson/Skye daddy kink thing was going pretty strong too.(Plus, Coulson gave the naughty hackers bondage bracelets and put them on computer time outs) I was kind of blown away by that. I usually don't get those kinds of thoughts just from watching a show, unless it's explicit, but this ... ooooo, my toes were curling.

I like shows that are deep and smart about social issues, but that's not this show. Yeah, this show has ... problems. Big problems. The characters are much better than the pilot initially introduced, but the way they handle social issues is seriously lacking. It's kind of frustrating, I watch Person of Interest every week and that's a 10pm show that handles privacy violations and spying very seriously and goes into all of that, government spying and tracking and facial recognition and hacking emails and all. And then I go to a show like this where they're like "lol, he's just hiding behind platitudes" and gives off the bizarre impression that just because SHIELD Agents are adorable and quirky SHIELD is completely trustworthy and good and infallible. Um ... they murder people. A lot. And kidnap people. And impose punishments and probations without a trial. These are the people who put a black bag over your head and drag you to a secret location and don't give you a lawyer and interrogate you until you tell them what they want to hear. THAT IS SCARY. ESPECIALLY IN THE CURRENT POLITICAL CLIMATE. I DON'T CARE HOW CUTE THEY ARE, THIS IS SCARY. So ... yeah. It's getting harder to ignore that side of things, for me personally. Making government agents likable and relatable in today's NSA spying society is a tough sell, but Joss should be able to do this. I'm not seeing that yet, all I'm seeing is a huge disconnect and people like poor Miles getting lost in the cracks. http://out-there-on-the-maroon.tumblr.com/post/65086720959/agents-of-shiled-miles
That said, I enjoy the characters and the joking and I wanna write all the porn because I ship all of them with each other in all the combos and I love how the fandom is shipping tons of het and femslash as well as OT3s and m/m stuff.
