I COMPLETELY got the OT3 sense from how FitzSimmons acted after they found out about Skye's hacker bf. The conversation actually makes LESS sense in a gen scenario. (Plus it's totally my headcanon that Fitz and Simmons always just have threesomes with whoever they want to sleep with - like the two of them are a package deal).

And yeah, the Coulson/Skye daddy kink thing was going pretty strong too.(Plus, Coulson gave the naughty hackers bondage bracelets and put them on computer time outs)

But yeah, I think these conversations are the show's SAD attempt to introduce complexity or ambiguity to the politics of SHIELD, like they're showing both sides, and it just sucks, for exactly the reasons you said. IMHO the show is really interesting in its characters and really sucky when it tries to be DEEP and SMART ABOUT SOCIAL ISSUES. I like shows that are deep and smart about social issues, but that's not this show.
