The 'spiffy effects' were a half-decent sound system hooked up to two laptops. We had two great (very young, underpaid) people working on the lights and music. It just LOOKED wicked awesome. Plus the costumes have been used over and over and over since the company began, so you see the same outfits every play (with a few minor exceptions.)
